You'll be screwed if your dog moves around any part of the car with some spirit and the leather is not covered. I left the trunk open while I was cleaning out the car, and my dog jumped up into the back and ran from back to front, and then once more. He left some nice surface-level scratches across the back seat and center console—a few buffing sessions got everything out. I was super lucky.
