It is an aspirational vehicle, the whole point is to show excess. Like the G Wagon, the XM has polarized styling that is drastically different from just about everything on the road. Both vehicles are fast for their sizes but aren't the fastest SUV on the road, because for the target audience, all out speed isn't the point, you just want others to know that it's fast.
It looks like the XM is priced around the G550's cost of $140K but below the G63. I suppose that's what the Red Label trim is for.
Some halo vehicles are weird, this is one of those.

MB has been building the G Wagon since 1979, and was originally built for the German military (it is narrow so that it fit in military transport). I don't see how the XM is anything like the G Wagon, except maybe in price, there isn't any sort of heritage to it, it doesn't excel at much (G Wagon is an off road beast) it isn't super luxurious (Bentayga and Cullinan) and it isn't particularily fast to go against other super SUVs (Lambo and Ferrari).
