This was discussed previously, the battery in the U.S. costs around $800-900 BMW list price. Might be lower than that wholesale, might not.
However the battery is expected to last 2x as long as a normal battery - i.e. ~10 years/150k miles or thereabouts for an actively driven model. And it can be deeply drained far more than a normal battery.
In addition, let's say we have to replace the battery in 5 years. It's a newer technology applied to mass produced models and costs will come down by replacement time. To what degree, I can't say.
I'm fine if my battery lasts 100k miles and I pay $600 for a new one at that time considering the weight savings, deep drain capability, and expected lifespan.
