I would call Tire Rack, the guys you talk to are the same guys who do the testing. They can help a great deal as they have expertise and they use 328i for their test cars.

I put conventional summer tires on my car and they are XL. I think they help to preserve sharp turn in. You don't have to use XL though because the e90 is not terribly heavy.
