I recommend you trim the inner window seal versus getting felt protectors.

Felt protectors add more pressure against the glass and make the regulator work harder. It also can still trap dirt and debris between the glass and seal, causing the debris to drag. Whereas trimming the inside seal, there will be no pressure against the glass and no chance for debris to get wedged between the glass and seal.

If you're worried about leaks, don't be. You are not trimming the outside seal that is exposed to the weather. You are trimming the interior seal that is protected inside the cabin.
