Yes, it's more expensive than other fluids. It's still a very small cost relative to the overall expense of this hobby.
Regarding SRF's ability to absorb water, I believe the opposite. From Bimmerworld's SRF product description page ( https://www.bimmerworld.com/Castrol-SRF-Synthetic-Racing-Brake-Fluid.html):
"SRF is a hydrophobic fluid - it repels water instead of absorbing it. This allows it to maintain a very high wet boiling point compared to hygroscopic fluids."
That's why I've chosen it, and why it was recommended to me by both Bimmerworld and TC Kline Racing.
In any event, I flush my fluid before each event. It's not necessary, but that's how I choose to do it.
