The cradles are compatible across the range, including the 1er. If your 1er has bluetooth then you can insert the cradle into the receptacle which is
inside the armrest. The upcoming iPhone cradle will also be compatible.
Like all the other cars, the cradle is purely for charging the phone and using the external phone aerial. You can have the phone in your pocket or in the boot (trunk) and it will still work with the bluetooth system.
There is also a 12v outlet under the armrest next to the USB & Aux In ports. There is also a iPod pocket glued to the underside of the armrest.
