I suppose i never really answered the OPs question and you are correct. One can be "fat" and active. Just go to an ironman event you're guaranteed to see a hand full of fat blokes who complete the 140.6 mile event within the time constraints. That takes a fair amount of training which means their fat asses are pretty active.
