Yup. Exactly that. And this is standard practice in Alaska. Some people just buy winter tires and have tire shops de-mount and re-mount on their same rims every season. This is quite a lot of wear, tear, and labor. The more savvy of us (and those who can afford it) buy a complete set of winter tires and rims, and just swap the rims every season. My BMW winter wheels for my 330i have studded tires.

Alaska tire shops are swamped with business every April and October.
