Mechanical devices are always more reliable and durable than electronic devices of the same function.

Electric circuits are very delicate. Moisture, heat and impact shock can shorten their lifespan drastically. Also parts cannot be replaced individually. The whole circuitry has to be replaced.

A car driven by battery won't last 20 years with continuous usage but an engine can run like clockwork easily during this timeframe with proper maintenance.
