The problem is the when people replace the bulbs they don’t seat the bulb correctly and it backs out. When that happens the bulb heats the wiring to the point insulation becomes brittle. The ‘design flaw’ is that it’s difficult to seat the bulb correctly in the housing. The real problem is people incorrectly replacing bulbs.
