I have the 18's OEM summer performance tires that came with the car.. I am switching to a winter setup next year.. but i have to say.. on the very cold days here and the rain it has not been awful. I wouldn;t go fast and take sharp corners but from reading some of post.. its like having ice skates on and I have to disagree. Just drive carefully1. Also with the 17's, they come with the all seasons on the Xi. You should be all set if you go with those.
