I've run w/o front plates in CT for 10+ years across 3 different cars. Never had an issue.
That's not to say some cop having a bad day can't pull you over and cite you for it, as it's technically required.
I keep the front plate under the passenger floor mat, with the idea that if I were to be pulled over, I would show the cop that I did have it and try to plead to his aesthetic sensibilities. Probably wouldn't work, but what the heck.
