I'm not holding my breath that I'll hear anything back from BMW on why one has it and the other doesn't. I'm guessing there may be some security issue between the two platforms and maybe android isn't up to the security level required by BMW where the iPhone is. Just guessing...

Well, I will preface this by stating that I am an Apple guy.... But usually you don't see that much disparity in functionality between iOS and Android apps in a big application like an app for a big car manufacturer like BMW. But this is clearly not the first time there has been a difference between iOS and Android apps for the same purpose. I do know the iOS app just had an update not too long ago, so Android could just be lagging behind a bit, and it is pretty common that one platform will update the app before the other - although it is usually iOS that lags behind Android.
BMW has always had a preference for Apple for some time. But maybe with the recent addition of Android Auto, that may change....
