Thanks guys, but there seems to be an element of confusion here.
Since posting the question I checked the instruction leaflet that was included in the BMW locking lug nut pack for my E92.
It's a general leaflet catering for most models including 3 and 5 series and it's issued by BMW.
It clearly states the following:
120+/-10 Nm for all versions in M12
140+/-10 Nm for all versions in M14
For reference 120 Nm = 88.5 Ft/Lbs, 140 Nm = 103 Ft/Lbs. Going by that, 90 Ft/Lbs doesn't reach the lower end of the tolerance band.
I get a bit anal about things like torque settings and tyre pressures, so I'll call my local dealer in the morning and see what they come up with - I'll let you know.
