It's not just a $2100 nav. It integrates most functions of the car into a single point, including ventilation, car settings, distance control, warning systems, audio systems, diagnostics, telephone function, and allows for use of the steering wheel buttons and onboard voice commands.

It might not be the best true nav software out there, but it does A BOATLOAD more than just nav, plus it's integrated. BMW did some serious R&D to get all those systems integrated into the car, and they don't just sell it and abandon it. There are updates and continue to make it run better. That's why it's $2100, and it's not overpriced IMO.

I love the iDrive on my e90. I got it because of doing ED, and not wanting to have that stress of my wife reading maps (who really cannot), plus I had not warmed to the "single hump" dashboard on the e90 when they first came out. I can't justify it on the e82 though, FOR ME.
