If you ran BMW and were accountable to share holders you would have to explain why you weren't investing in the model that was the number two selling model as well as the model leading to the most sales growth....


In 2015 the x5 was the second leading selling model with 55k sales. It also had the most growth of any model at 17% versus the prior year.

While BMW sold 94k 3-series models, the number one selling model, it was actually a contraction of 6% versus the prior year, they sold 101k in 2014.

Additionally all other models* saw contraction with the exception of the 4 series which did see 11% growth and was the 3rd best selling model next to 3 series and x5 with 46k units.

*not counting newly launched models
