Potential Issues (operation & Warranty)?

Long story short, because of scheduling and timing we made an appointment for a “brake fluid” flush for my wife’s (very first) X7 at our local Les Schwab.

We dropped it off this morning, confirmed the work that was supposed to be done, and went about our day…

A couple hours later we were told it was done and ready to go, but when we got there they said it was going to be $121.34 for the OIL change and materials. There in lies the problem… (We always have service performed at BMW)

-Are we going to run into issues with our warranties from having an unwanted/unneeded service performed outside of our normal service locations (Authorized BMW service centers)?

-Will there be any potential problems down the [proverbial] road from having service done with unknown parts and materials?

*I apologize if I’m unnecessarily stressing about something that will be just fine. This is just our very first BMW (besides my motorcycle) that we only purchased 2 years ago and ,as y’all know, they are not inexpensive vehicles. To purchase, repair, or otherwise.

Thank you for any info or help.

Why should Les Schwab not charge for their work? Are they associated with BMW?

Edit: I misunderstood the question.

Welcome to the forum. You will need to explain a bit more what you are talking about. Since you took it to them you obviously knew they were going to work on your car. What about getting the bill makes you know think about what affect it may have on the warranty.

That said, having an independent perform services on your vehicle will not affect your warranty. That would be against federal law.

What im gathering is that the op brought his car in for a brake fluid flush but they did an oil change instead.
I would just find out what kind of oil they used, if not an approved oil, get it changed for an approved one. Especially if they used conventional instead of syn

Sorry for the late reply…

@Orient330iNYC, you are correct. The issue I was having was that we had scheduled the appointment for a Brake Fluid flush and there was a miscommunication between the front desk and the garage and an oil change was done instead.

Besides having just paid for service at the dealership, my main concern was the potential use of incorrect/unapproved parts and materials that could cause issues later on. After speaking with the BMW service department and comparing the parts and materials that were used, they figured out that even though they did use “OEM Spec” parts they used a different viscosity oil than what is normally used.

In the end, everything turned out fine. There’s nothing that will cause any headaches for us or problems with the car. Being that this was the nicest (and most expensive) vehicle we’ve purchased to date, the last thing I want to do is make a mistake that will jeopardize the longevity and reliability of something we’ve worked hard for.

Thank you all for your replies. I sincerely appreciate the input.

If I took my vehicle to an independent mechanic, and asked for a brake flush, signed the papers for the brake flush service, and then was told that they changed the oil/filter instead, I would not pay for that service. The miscommunication was between the shop itself. They need to take responsibility.
