2023 X7 Lock Nut Key

Hi everyone,

I had purchased a used 2023 X7 40i last year. When I went to change the 22" tires last week, Costco said I need a lock nut key for this bolt which is different from the other three. The user manual says it should be in the trunk but I don't see it there and I looked all over but cannot find it. Is this something that is unique to each vehicle? How can I get a replacement key or is there another way to remove and replace these tires?

Thanks!

Sometimes I've seen people put them in the glove box. You might want to look there. Good luck!

These are usually an aftermarket accessory. If there is no record of the brand and key code stuffed away in the owners manual, go to any tire shop. They deal with lost keys every day, and can remove them (destructively) as easily as they do regular lugs.

Dealerships, and most decent tire shops will have a master set that should include the correct key code to remove the locking lug bolt. Sounds like Costco doesn't have the funds to purchase a set?

Not making little of the situation…but do you know what the “key” looks like? Just mentioning it to be certain you’re looking for the right thing. Hopefully the previous owner left it somewhere in the vehicle…like the glovebox, or center storage, or other compartment inside the cabin if it’s not in the trunk with the spare (if you have one) or some other place below the cargo floor’s storage.

The locking lug bolt in your picture…usually has an adapter with the imprint of what you see on your bolt…and the other end will probably fit in a 17mm socket (unless BMW has changed the size of the lug bolt for this model).

As others have mentioned, if it is a BMW locking bolt…your local BMW dealership’s service dept usually has a set for all of the applicable keys…and they can fit their set to determine which key you need…and you can then order a replacement from the parts department.

You need to look for the silver adapter in the pic below…yours should look similar…but it could be black instead of silver depending g on who manufactured it:
