M50D - Cloud of smoke
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Disclosure - This is my first diesel so this could be completely normal behaviour, but it is quite disconcerting. I feel bad for the driver behind when I decide to dump the throttle and its like 007 just hit the smoke button :-) |

Never saw anything like that.
I have also X5(F15) x30d, no smoke whatsoever even after all these years. (it's not that powerfull car as X7 M50d though) EDIT: I've had to look it up. Do you mean something like this? |

Yeah, it’s similar to that video although maybe not quite as bad. Tried it today in comfort mode - same result. Parked and tried in neutral - similar result but not so bad.
It’s somewhat blue - so I’d say it was oil rather than anything else. Any other M50d owners confirm that they never see smoke? |

They told me its also a known problem - a few of the M50D's here had to go back for similar or worse repairs. |

Not had this problem after 10 months of ownership?
I'm assuming its quite noticeable when looking out of your rear view mirror as I tend not to go to the rear of the SUV after start up?

Btw: I would definitely ask for replacement of the turbos, rather than repairing it. |

Yeah - Im still waiting to see what they come back with. If you have this issue, you won't miss it. After changing gear, you engulf the car behind in a big cloud of smoke. Apparently if its black smoke then its liked to whether or not you use AdBlue, but white smoke is more serious... |
