Does the Comfort Access work like this?

Car is locked. I walk up to the car with the key in the pocket. Touch button on the handle and it unlocks. Push start button and go. I leave the car, push start button again. I walk away and the car locks by itself when i'm out of range.

So I basically don't have to touch the key at all to get into the car, start it, stop it, and when I leave the car. Is my understanding of CA correct or does it involve a push on the key?

that is correct...to open the door from the outside, all you have to do is walk up to the door handle and pull on it while the key fob in your pocket. when you leave your car, it doesnt lock on its on...you have to touch the top of the handle(i do it with my thumb) and it locks. i hope that helps.

You're close, but not exactly...

Walk up to the locked car, grab the handle and the car unlocks. Step on clutch (or brake if auto), press start button and go. When you're done driving, press button once to stop the engine, then again to shut off accessories. Get out, close door, press ridges on handle to lock. It won't lock automatically. If you intend on locking the car, you don't need to press the button twice to stop, but if you don't lock the car you have to press it a second time to shut off accessories, just like with a key (there are two positions with a key - accessories and start or stop. All this can be done with the key in your pocket.

Personalized settings available

The car allows you to personalize several settings...including whether or not the car automatically locks after a few seconds of the ignition being turned off and the doors being closed.

Several other settings can be programmed to each of the two remotes.

Comfort Access scared me, I have no problem pressing the button or putting it in the socket to start the car.

BOO!

BTW, I really like it in the rain or when I'm carrying packages.

when you decide to turn off the car, if you HOLD the start stop button the car AND electronics/accessories turn off. Rather than having to press it twice if you're not going to lock the car

very nice thanks for the clarification everyone

i'm recovering from 3 failed attempts at buying a used e46 the last week.

2001 330ci. SIX!!! previous owners. pass
2004 330ci. seller (also a mechanic) REFUSED to let me have another shop take a look at it. pass
2006 330ci ZHP. lots of fixable problems but the seller refused to lower the price further to accommodate the cost of fixing them.

so now i'm thinking about a slightly used 335i coupe just to get this all out of the way lol

if u hold the stop button to turn the car off the accessories will turn off as well. whether or not u push twice quickly or hold the button is a personal preference thing.

I just push the start button once to shut off the engine, which leaves the accessories on. Locking the car then shuts off the accessories.

If you can get them to build you a 2007 at this point, I'm sure they'll put in CA if that's what you want.

I think you're confusing the setting where the car will automatically re-lock the doors after a period of time if they are unlocked and no door is opened. I'm not aware of any setting where the doors auto lock after the ignition being off and the doors closed. You actually have to lock it (put your finger on the CA ridges or press the lock button on the key).

What I do too. This way I have a little music as I get out.

^too lazy to read all that, but comfort access is super easy. I just naturally grab the door handle and it unlocks. put my foot on the brake, hit the start button...car starts up...

when i'm done I just hit the start button once to turn the car off, and step out. tap the ridges, everything shuts off and car locks.

done deal. no worries about keys or anything.
