Issues with Navigation X7 2023
While using BMW Navigation I found that it is not accurate and it was asking to take exit where as Google Maps was showing accurate information.
BMW Navigation doesn’t seem to be as good as Google Maps. It is randomly asking to take exits while on the freeway when the distance to destination is many exits away. Did anyone else face this issue while using Navigation ? |

Yes, it is known that BMW navigation is not accurate compared to Apple, Google and Waze maps. I don’t use BMW Nav as a primary navigation

I use BMW Navi with IDrive-7, and while it may not take the same exact route as google/apple maps, I never felt that it is making an awkward or stupid route. Seems pretty reliable for me. My Navi Maps show March 2022 release date.
Do you have the filter set to (avoid highways)? Maybe that’s why… I like to use the BMW maps because I can see detailed maps on the Heads Up Display which I really like. |

Why would that be? It gets map updates like any other GPS navigation. Mine was extremely accurate in downtown Orlando and those roads get updated with changing exits almost every 3 months.

On long trips, with video in motion coded, we can enjoy a 2-3 hour movie on the main screen, while Navigation is on my HUD and the driver's instrument panel. In addition I can easily add stops to gas stations or stores with no issues (unlike Carplay that won't let you search/type). Keep in mind that even Apple Carplay today does not have the option to add a stop unless it is from a selected category (gas station, etc) but you can't even search for one!. BMW in fact offers advantages that Carplay Apple Maps and in some cases google maps doesn't yet offer for me. The last advantage I have is that using the BMW App, I can setup my route the night before my trip, see the exact route taken, send it to my vehicle remotely, and next day I stat my trip it is their. Another feature is that not the BMW Navigation can predict your driving routes!. If I leave every day to work at certain time, the vehicle suggests that just like Apple CarPlay. Same way if I have a Friday afternoon trip to a certain location/restaurant or soccer/basketball field with kids. It learns all that. |

Ditto with the question about looking to see what selections you have for routing. If you don’t want to use toll roads…then select NO TOLL ROADS. Also, you don’t have to take the directions given…if you feel like another exit is better…just continue the way you actually want to go…the BMW nav system will adjust. It may tell you to make a U-turn if still close to the exit that was given…but if you continue on, it will readjust the route automatically. If you take that route routinely, then the BMW nav system will adjust after a few times.
The older versions of iDrive also have a selection for ALTERNATIVE ROUTES…which you can pull up and SELECT. I doubt that BMW has dropped this design principle. My last trip out of town…it provided 3 different alternate routes and it also gave the distance and time it would take for each route.

While HUD is a good feature, but these out weighs it 1) Traffic routing is not good. Waze / Apple map was more reliable when there is huge traffic (personally experiences it using BMW Nav, during office commute) 2) In TX when I travel back country, POIs are not accurate and at times missing for us to either eat or take a break 3) Few times the route was to take me to the back side / loading dock of the commercial establishments and not the Front entrance Glad to hear it is working out for you all. I'll try using BMW map and report back if it continues. two other things that I have not added earlier is, other Navs provide speed check / cops information in the route and voice based routing (I use this all the time).

I noticed that Waze is the only app that allows BMW Navi in HUD and instrument cluster while at same time Waze is in the infotainment screen. Would be pretty neat to have both running as a double-check type of method.
I have to use bmw Navi as I need HUD navigation since we play movies on the main infotainment screen on long trips (no need to comment on legal vs illegal part of it, u may assume am not looking) |

Apple Map shows in HUD, but not very detailed like the BMW Nav. Check this pic that I took while using Apple Map. It shows lanes and direction. Same junction but with BMW Nav (its very detailed)

I did not say am getting Waze on HUD. I said Waze is the only one that allows BMW Navi in the HUD, as well as Waze in the infotainment screen, both working at same time in parallel; hence if I switch the screen to a movie using the pre-set buttons, I can still see the live maps at least from the HUD that is linked to BMW Navi. Once I see a weird route or exit, I can quickly switch to Waze and glance if it is leading to the same exit or route (kina nice redundancy). Apple and Google Maps would automatically cancel BMW Navi in the background and won't allow both to be working simultaneously.

Yes, I know that, I can see direction, but what I meant you still can not get full map routes on HUD if you use Apple or Google maps like you'd get when using BMW Navi (as shown in your images)

I've had BMW Nav on the headsup and Waze verbal alerts running at the same time. I have found BMW generally equal to Waze in calculating routes around traffic jams. My wife's MB wagon has heads up and the MB nav system is inferior to BMWs. This is east coast from Connecticut to Florida; maybe it varies in different geographic areas.
