What ISN'T covered by the BMW Extended Warranty?

Just picked up a used 2020 X7, and the dealership offered a BMW extension on the OEM warranty due to the mileage. It's a good deal for 5 years/100k miles. I have no intention of driving that many miles, but seems like that may be the time where some higher cost maintenance items come up like air suspension.

However, I also hear sometimes that they don't cover some of the typical items due to them falling under the "normal wear and tear" category. I wouldn't expect brakes to be covered for example.

But what else isn't covered under the normal extended warranty? Has anyone had claims denied for something they expected to be covered? Do you think I could negotiate less cost for less miles, say 25k-50k miles? I just genuinely won't be able to drive it that much in 5 years.

Have a few days to decide, so any feedback is appreciated.

Edit: After Reading more, seems like I already caught one thing i'll call a "miscommunication" on the dealer's part. Apparently the way BMW warranties work, it's 5 years/150k miles total on the car, not an additional 5 years/150k from today's date. So the warranty would end next year.

Unfortunately, that's the norm in car "warranties" (or service contracts). Depending on how much you paid for it, I'd probably get a refund myself .

Thankfully I didn't pull the trigger. Got the car on Saturday, and they gave me until the end of the month to accept the "deal" i was offered. Glad I chose to do some research first.

Most, perhaps all, extended warranties/vehicle service contracts from manufactures start with the inservice date and not the date it is purchased.

Here are the T&C for the BMW vehicle service contracts.

Let's talk about this more.. I have just put a deposit on a new-to-me 21 XDrive 40i. I have had a good convo and email dialogue with Trenton at High Line and right now I like what Fidelity Platinum has to offer compared to what I read in the BMW coverage attachment TurtleBoy Posted.

This X7 I put a deposit on has had both headlights replaced in it's short life, for better or worse. The tech's description both times says they "melted"... Headlights are not covered by Fidelity Platinum, but they are showing excluded in BMW's plans as well. Is this a risk I need to accept or can they be covered with any aftermarket policy? Will they be covered with my one-year CPO that I am getting with the purchase?

Finally, given both headlights have already been replaced, is that an indication of future failure and can I do anything about it.. IE, should i be sleeping better, or worse at night? I know they are obscenely expensive to replace.

If anyone has time to put down a 12 pack, maybe we can go on discussing how such a fantastic, beautiful vehicle with so much engineering has headlights that 'melt'.

I have never heard of headlights melting so not sure what happened with that vehicle. I wouldn't think though that it is at any higher risk than any others to have a headlight fail again.

The CPO warranty will not cover headlights along with many other things.

kern417 Unfortunately the dealer not being more specific as to the start of the warranty coverage timeline is not a surprise. I've been doing this for years, no one wants a 1 year / 150K mile extended warranty.... it doesn't even make sense.

All of our Fidelity Platinum extended warranty coverage is additional to the date/mileage on the vehicle the extended warranty coverage is purchased at, simple!

Good to see you here man. I really appreciate all your b58 content over the years. Feel free to join us in the North American BMW X7 Owners Group on FB too.

+1 on Fidelity, all the pcar guys use them. You always want an exclusionary policy if it's in the budget.

If you decide to shoot some YT content feel free to post it in that FB group and PM me if you need a hook on forged wheels for the new ride.

Appreciate. Definitely videos coming over the next few weeks but so far so good. When I'm ready to mess with it I'll keep that in mind
