Its gonna be 20 races only. The teams have told the FIA that they are only willing to run 20 races. If Turkey gets approved they might drop another track.

Honestly, Turkey is just a waste of resources. I know turn 8 is spectacular but attendance is a joke.
Also, 3 months is a decent enough break. Hell, I work 60 hours a week and get 4 weeks of vacation so why can't they do it?

Jean Todt announced today that there would only be 20 races, and 1 of the listed races would be dropped.
He also added that they don't know which race is being dropped for sure yet. http://www.pitpass.com/43839-Todt-20-races-in-2012

Never got why they need such a long break.

Um. In all fairness, I don't believe those 3 months are just vacation.
The teams use that time to built a completely new prototype F1 car. (Granted usually a head start has already been made.) Hardly slacking it I'd say.

True, the time is needed to develop (and construct) the new car - so for the engineers and the staff in the factory I can see it as a necessary break from racing. I just get tired of the driver's saying "we can't do that many races". They get 3 months to hit the gym relax.

What about the summer break between Aug 5 and Sept 2???
I know its there to reduce cost, but is one month necessary? 2 weeks normal wait is long enough for our fans, and one month felt like a new season. how about shorten the break into three weeks and keep the winter break just "long enough" for development and testing.

. I agree, would rather have an empty Turkey than a packed Valencia circuit.
The last 3-4 years at the Turkish GP have produced fantastic races, so it's a real disappointment. But economics are important, I suppose....*sigh* |

I just noticed that the Indian GP is scheduled for April 22nd of next year.
They must be insane. Air temperature is well over 100F during the day, and over 80F at night. It can reach 110F during the day at the end of April. The F1 circus is going to roast!! |

The calender is still subject to change, but definitely the heat plus humidity is going to be brutal...

I hope to make it to the Canadian and US races next year. I like how they aren't back to back anymore.

Does anyone know when the tickets go on sale for 2012? I will be out of the country in September and probably have little access to the internet. I dont want to miss my chance to purchase some good seats in Austin.
