Delivery Preparation
Out of curiosity for those who did PCD or had an extensive drive back home did you protect the front of your car with painters tape/Etc?
Drive will be from SC<> Tampa. |

Eventually you will drive your car for tens of thousands of miles. Why should the first the couple hundred miles be any different.

I tried with this temporary clear bra stuff which was recommended to me and it ended up not sitting right and scratched the paint, just do it with nothing. Clean the bugs and such off every once in a while but don't worry to much. These cars are meant to be driven.

XPEL is the route I am going. I have a local detailer who will do my final prep, XPEL install, and CQuartz coating. She should be protected for years to come and save my back from all the hours I spent detailing my last vehicle.

I swear by the protective film now, seeing how great my car looks after three years of it being on. That said, even though I always have a long drive home after delivery of my cars, I do not tape it up. It's a bit extensive to me. Just be extra careful on the road before you get the film applied. It works for me.

Just got back from PCD -> Dallas, Texas. I put nothing on the car and had no issues. Rock chips are going to happen unless you plan to put a clear bra on but I think the line across the hood looks worse than a tiny chip... but that's me.

By the time you piss around with tape and time it would be cheaper to spray paint the chips every 3 years. BMW is a drivers car meant to be driven hard so enjoy the car and not nurse it like a baby

I saw some pictures earlier this year of someone who used blue painters tape. Might be a bit overkill for the SC to FL drive though; just take it easy and get the PPF installed ASAP once you get home.

I used this Carpet Protection Self-Adhering Film when I did PCD for 135i. It worked pretty good. It wasn't perfect on the car but it helped IMO. Was easily removed at the end of my trip. Had a little bit of glue residue at the edges. Had to use 3M adhesive remover to get it off. But nothing short of regular cleaning bugs and tar off.
edit: i brought wax as well to put on before sticking the film as an added protection so the film came off easily. Kind of like vinyl stickers.

I did and it worked wonders. I've been driving my car on highways here and I've already got couple stone chips. Funny how I protected it in one area but got caught in it in another. Lol
SC to Florida is a long drive though so I'm still glad I did it. Oh and it only cost me $5 for the Blue tape.
