Looks decent. The rear side windows look a bit small though

To get back on topic and not hash out a post from a year ago...this mule looks so much more promising...including the (hopefully) chrome Armageddon and "hockey stick" delete. That's how bad the concept was.
Lets hope its not a LAV... Luxury Activity Vehicle

Seriously though, shaping up well, I think its outline looks better than the G Class or whatever the Merc is called these days.

Right, because a convertible is a subcategory of car.

"The only way you'll go wrong is by using the term "crossover" to define a body-on-frame SUV. Examples of such vehicles include the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Mercedes G-Class. Those are all still SUVs in the original sense of the term -- and in those cases, "crossover" doesn't apply."
Exactly. And the reason for this is that "crossover" has become a subcategory of SUV, just as "body-on-frame SUV" is. So any crossover can properly be called an SUV, just as I said and as the article also makes clear.

Therefore, getting back to the original post that sparked the debate (a very old post at that, as kozzi points out), the X7 can indeed properly be called an SUV (though, as noted previously, BMW doesn't even do that - only Jason, the author of the text in the post did, and he did so appropriately).

As a matter of fact, if you go back to my original post, you will see that I had edited it for clarity and the examples I used are the same ..
Great! Glad the we can finally end the debate and move on.

I still hope that there is some common sense left in the design department.

Just looked at the new X3 yesterday. Nice car overall and more pleasant as a whole , but not sure about the nostrils. Every time I said "yeah, nice, but those grills..."
I personally like the way the new X3 looks but can see how some might find the "nostrils" too large. Sometimes design has to give in a little to engineering as the large grilles on the G01 are active.

Could they have been smaller? Yes...but the G01 has the best Drag Coefficient in its class with a 0.29 CD. For reference, the Macan is at 0.37 CD.

Couldn't get the time stamp to work. The Active Grilles start at 4:15.

The X7 will most likely have the same Active Grille setup.

I like it, don't get me wrong, is maybe one of the nicest BMW's right now with no headlamps that are stretched to the grills, no hood line, not to busy, well balanced. As a whole the vehicle is really nice, but the nostrils are just where I can accept them; a little bit larger and wouldn't be acceptable for me. I am waiting for the new X4.

Unlike the camo pics of the new Mercedes GLS, at least this doesn't look like a stretched minivan. Its got nice proportions to it.

Looks to have a great amount of leaning in the corners. Hopefully they will have a fix for this before it goes on sale

Update - March 20, 2018:

The X7 prototype has dropped virtually all camouflage, save for some remaining camo wrap, giving us a very accurate look at what the production X7 will look like. Clearly visible now are the shapes of the headlights, front bumper, tail lights, rear reflectors and front fender vent.

Update - December 14, 2017:

It's been months since we spotted the last X7 prototype, but here it is wearing all new camouflage. The G07 X7 will be introduced in 2018, at nearly the same time the next-gen G05 X5 is launched. The X7 will come to the U.S. in x40i, x40d, and x50i models and will be very similar mechanically to G05 X5, with the main differentiation in creature comforts and the 3rd row specific configuration. There will be 6 and 7-seat versions and climate control will have 5 independent zones.

Update - July 5, 2017:

Here is the first video of the X7 testing on the Nurburgring.

Update - April 25, 2017:

It looks like BMW has brought out its full lineup of upcoming models, as its future flagship SUV, the X7, has now also taken its first laps on the Nurburgring.

Update - January 23, 2017:

Have a first live video look at the BMW X7 prototype. Not only does it look tough, but sounds it as well. The X7 is expected to be revealed next year and land at dealers in 2019. The U.S. will get x40i, x40d, and x50i models, while the rest of the world will also get the x30i and x30d (source).

11/20/16:

It's been nearly 3 years since the BMW X7 (G07) was officially announced to be coming, and although mules using other models have been spotted, no actual full body prototype has been spotted until now!

The X7 will be BMW's first true 3-row 7-passenger SUV. BMW has said that it will not just be an extended wheelbase X5 and will have its own identity. As for size, the prototype seen here is clearly much larger than the X5, with a longer rear door and roofline. The large glass moonroof looks to be panoramic and the huge front grille takes on a vertically stretched orientation like that seen recently on the next gen X5 prototype.

As the flagship SUV in BMW's lineup, the X7 will also be offered in an even higher luxury version. "We will make a higher luxury version of it as well. So in the same way as you take a 7 Series and you bring in the Individual bespoke service as with Rolls Royce," said Ian Robertson previously. This ultra luxurious version is expected to debut after the standard X7.

The BMW X7 will be revealed in 2018 and compete directly with the Mercedes GLS Class, Audi Q7 and Range Rover. When it comes to market in 2019, the U.S. will get x40i, x40d, and x50i models, while the rest of the world will also get the x30i and x30d (source).

SUV line.. X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 ....

car line .. 1er (Certain markets) 2er , 3 , 4, 5 , 6 , 7, 8 ,

Keep selling SUV/SAV and don't stop using the profits from those for sports car models please.

Thread title makes me think it really revealed its styling many years ago when it was just called a refrigerator.

It's not going to be the best car BMW makes, but it's a great potential alternative to a GLS or Yukon (for those with kids and need a people hauler as the wife's DD, like myself)

Garage List
Apart from the grills I don't dislike it. I have no need for one of these either. It will no doubt sell.

I've seen better looking BMWs... but if BMW needs these vehicles (X7, 2 Active Tourer, etc...) to survive in a market that's increasingly asking for those, I guess I can live with it, providing BMW keeps sports cars in its lineup

real Porsche fans never liked the Cayenne.. but it sells well more than the 911
we don't like some BMWs but they are those who sell more

I just wish the grill was smaller.. it's too big :/
