Production/delivery
I was told today that production begins end of month and I could have the car before end of the year (I preordered last week). Has anyone else heard this? Everything else I’ve heard suggests we start seeing these around March.

I have configured per Order Guide, but have not negotiated any pricing yet. My salesman provided me with a Vehicle Inquiry Report with my configuration, but it doesn't have a partial vin or production number on it yet. It has an order status... 047-Spec. released-no
I have no idea what that means but he told me he'd be in touch with me in early Jan to talk details closer to arrival |

Have not negotiated price yet but I configured and ordered. Will work out price later when it shows up assuming I actually want to take it (which I hope I do!)

Without getting specific to my situation, I can say that there are definitely discounts being given. Nothing too huge, but a couple grand at least is very reasonable and doable.

Current status is 111-order accepted. Was able to sign in and add it to My BMW Garage to start tracking production. What's funny is the photo shown is not exactly the correct configuration but it's at least showing something that's not on the US site yet.

Interesting that production starts earlier for the US market than for Europe. For Europe it looks like production starts in March and then we'll have to wait for delivery almost 2 months.

Preorder BS
Just spoke to my dealerships sales manager today, I just wanted to add leather dash to my build and then they took all my enthusiasm away....Preordered with in first 3 minutes and all I have a week 6 build....Apparently the week schedule starts from week One of the New Year(2019) not week 1 of SOP-December(2018), So Feb 4 build....So, then he continues to tell me that he can't sell any X7's until the official launch date of 3/1. So the cars will be sitting in the dealers lots and we won't be able to have them until then. My salesman "Misspoke" by was telling me first week of January for delivery. So apparently none of us will get these things for another 90 days. Anyone else hear the same or have their salesman Telling them different??

That checks with what we just saw of the G05 release, where cars sat at dealers for a bit, until BMW let dealers release them to pre-order customers on an "official" date (which varied by many days depending on which dealer you asked). However, December (or even 1 January) to March is a crazy long time. 3 months of car production all backed up, waiting to be released?

That's actually SOP believe it or not. With a new model, they produce a bunch of them, and have them sit at the port until the official launch date. This way every dealer gets a bunch to sell on the same day. Otherwise, they'd just trickle in without much fanfare. Also, EPA has to sign off on any new model, and they've been much tougher on euro vehicles ever since the VW diesel gate.
Owners of the new Panamera, had their cars sitting at the port for months waiting for the EPA to give Porsche their clearance. Then, Porsche could schedule the launch date. Very frustrating. |

I never expected we'd get the cars earlier than the official launch date and wouldn't be upset or surprised with a later build; I'd guess most of the December builds are primarily intended to accumulate inventory and work out production kinks. And, building the pre-orders later would have them arrive nearer to the launch date, rather than sitting around somewhere for 2 months. If I remember correctly, the G05 had a similar timeline with an August production start and November deliveries.

I talked to BMW NA at the LA Autoshow and they confirmed that Dec production cars will be for customers, but deliveries won't start until March. All dealers will get cars at the same time.

Im fine with march or january just get the communication right. When I ordered i expected march or even april but then dealer was saying earlier. Just hope they bang out the kinks. My M5 was an early build and it started randomly powering down at highway speeds until they reprogrammed some software that drives the fuel injector pressure. I think there was a few hundred cars in that batch.
