I just need iOS 13 and I'll have full screen CarPlay without coding on iDrive 6?

I pay over $100K for a car and everything is an extra while a Kia and Toyota Corolla offer all this for free. BMW ripping us off...certainly will not be paying that. But I do love the M2 |

So do you still need the widescreen patch in order for it to work? I just installed iOS 13 Beta 2 and CarPlay did not automatically shift to widescreen in my car. Also, the iDrive software in my car is compatible with the patch (NBT_EVO_P). If there is some widescreen option toggle on the phone (or in CarPlay) I have not found it yet....

My thoughts exactly. And I want to be able to use the touch pad interface rather than reach up and take my eyes off the road to use the touch screen. Until those changes are implemented I'll keep passing on CarPlay unless I'm in a rental car.

For CarPlay, music works in the HUD if you are in a playlist. Also, if you are not you can at least see what Is playing and go to the next song. I love that feature. To be able to use any streaming music in my car that easily, I’m going to take it. I had CarPlay in my Jeep and lost it in my Tesla, you miss it when you don’t have it. Not having the interface on your main screen when using your phone for streaming music sucks.
I very much wish Maps worked in the hud for sure, at least on the instrument cluster. I end up sending navigation to BMW most of the time. Now with the calendar app in iOS 13 you can add locations to your calendar events. Bring up calendar and it will give you directions, its so nice. I missed that about my Tesla X. I know the wheel works to scroll through buttons in CarPlay, but not sure about the touchpad. I really like the home screen in iDrive. So I tend to set my music with CarPlay and then just use the hard buttons to go back to iDrive. If you have music playing through CarPlay and press the MEDIA button it takes you right to the song that is playing. Its great. I Also have a hot button programmed to go right to CarPlay music app (apple music in my case) and if music isn’t playing it starts. Thats great! Anyway, people probably know about this stuff but just thought I would share. : Last edited by kdesign7; 06-20-2019 at 05:49 AM.. |

With CarPlay in iOS 13 do we X7 owners still get the ability to see album art/artist/song information in the gauge cluster? Anything change along those lines? This is my setup all the time, allows me to see the map and my media simultaneously, I never use the iDrive screen to switch songs or sources, only the steering wheel controls. |

Are you saying ID6, there is no need to code to get CarPlay FullScreen? if so, that great. I read other posts with ID6 having split screen. On my ID5, I had to code to get CarPlay full screen with iOS 12 or 13. My CarPlay was a factory option with NBT evo. I saw on next post, you did upgrade from ID5 to ID6. Is it just software or hardware required as well? What are the news features? I recall UI is different, and some models have touch screen. Anything else?

The coding patch for widescreen CarPlay is not "out in the open" yet, at least from what I have seen thus far. That is one feature paid coders are still holding close so they can make some money. That said, I don't know if the CarPlay widescreen patch is a true patch (which requires more in-depth coding knowledge) or just a simple coding parameter(s) that is deep inside the iDrive ECU that is not easily recognizable or obvious to find (and there are a TON of codable parameters inside each ECU - all with German abbreviations). The differences between ID6 and ID5 are largely cosmetic. But I prefer the look and layout of ID6 over ID5...

We're wondering what that looks like when the horizontal space increases by a third. Thanks. |

How did you get it to work? I have iDrive 6 and iOS 13 beta 2 but no widescreen CarPlay. I'm running NBTevo_L

That day is today actually. Well 3 days ago. I have a car without nav and have CarPlay installed in my 2018 230i. Steve at codemybimmer figured out a work around. I have the factory code for lifetime CarPlay as if I purchased it with the car. The only thing I can't get right now is full screen CarPlay. But I'm hopeful that the new iOS update will help fix that as well. I did update my screen to the larger size, but the retrofit in total was still less than half the cost of spending 2k for nav I didn't want, and $300 for CarPlay on top of that.

Guys, I am running NBTevo_P with iOS 13 Beta 2 on ID6 (just installed iOS 13 Beta 2 on my phone yesterday). My car is a 2017 F80 that came from the factory with CarPlay. My car DID NOT automatically shift to widescreen CarPlay when I upgraded to iOS 13 Beta 2. I do have some specific custom coding done to iDrive. Specifically, I coded ID5 to ID6, and I retrofitted an OEM 8.8" touchscreen, which also required some coding to get the touchscreen working. However, I don't think the custom coding above should affect widescreen capability.
I think it is safe to say that iOS 13 WILL NOT automatically enable widescreen on ID6 and that the widescreen patch sold by certain BMW coders is still required. At least with the current iOS 13 beta release. For now, I am not holding my breath that the final release of iOS 13 will enable widescreen either. But we shall see I guess.... As far as widescreen on ID7 in the X7 and other newer BMWs with ID7, I think widescreen CarPlay is built into ID7 from the factory for iOS 12 and newer. So while ID7 still has some CarPlay bugs BMW is dealing with, I doubt any coding is necessary to have widescreen on ID7 based on what I have seen so far.
