A) You’re gonna need a lot more than $140K for an exotic.

B) On behalf of every mom driver in America, that’s a pretty offensive generality.

If it gets classic Alpine spiked wheels, and they're 21/22 inch...this could set a record for time taken to clean the wheels

The 2020 X7 M50i is more powerful and heavier still, with a 523-hp 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 and a BMW-estimated 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds. As for the BMW Alpina XB7 (the hot SUV's likely name), it could have as much as 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, potentially matching the 2020 Alpina B7 and its twin-turbo V-8. Engineering a tall three-row crossover isn't the same as working on a large luxury sedan with a lower center of gravity, however, so we'll have to wait to learn more on the potential next best-selling Alpina model in the U.S.
That'd be really sick. It's gonna sell well in Socal.

Maybe they won't even make one - never been an M7.

This is so problematic. You must be such an amazing person to chat with.

Sorry I offended, it was actually supposed to be more self/family deprecating and humorous based on my real world experiences. I fixed to to say what I was actually thinking at the moment vs what my fingers typed... it was late and I was tired, obviously didn't proof read correctly...

And before you get even more triggered, my wife is a wonderful driver 90% of the time. Occasionally however she gets in a rush, flustered and careless when in tight spots and makes mistakes. Hell even I make mistakes.

My point was, as much as I love Alpina this is a 600 hp $140k+ SUV with 21" or 22" multi spoke wheels and and will likely get dinged up being used as a daily. I'd rather have an exotic or semi exotic toy that gets treated correctly by both myself and my wife rather than spend it on a big fast SUV, but to each their own.

I think MB plans to offer a Maybach trim on the GLS. So this Alpina edition makes sense.

This is how I have felt about the Alpina B7. It was the unofficial M7 and I loved that about it. Takes a unique vehicle and makes it a member of an exclusive club.

Not actually offended, and you’re not wrong. Most of my friends drive around in their huge Yukons and Escalades, oblivious to curbs and parking stops. But I think most of their husbands drive the same way. Most people just don’t care for their cars the way we do.

Merc GL/ GLS had an AMG version from the beginning. There is enough room for a rival from Alpina. Different philosophy, but close in power output

I'd much rather have a barrel of Alpina Wine (Wein) instead.

they could have taken it from the 7series but i doubt they would sell enough to make it worthwhile.

X7 Alpina would be one sweet ride, likely 150 k though. If you build it the will come.

M is more about sporty ness, Alpina is more about luxury cruiser everyday useability. Look at the old M6 GC vs Alpina B6, same hp, but back then M6 is RWD and use DCT while Alpina is AWD with Auto, it use less aggressive tire, have higher ride height, it trades off for more real world performance.

Check out the old Motortrend article.

Though I suppose since M is going AWD and Auto these days on the big cars it's less obvious on the surfaxe

i have always felt that alpina was power on-demand while the m cars were "full send" all the time. one was a conservative touring vehicle the other an aggressive tourer.

Correct, I would compare ALPINA to Mercedes AMG, luxurious German cruiser/muscle car.

I love my B7 and my guess is the XB7 will be amazing. The X7 already drives great and BMW needs an answer to the GLS63.
