I did not realize this, thanks for pointing that out. I just took a closer look at the 2020 ordering guide and it states that option 1XL, 21" Y-Spoke bi-color ferric grey wheels, style 753 with all-season non RF tires, will add option 300, space saver spare. So it looks like that is a way to get the space saver spare as a "free" option since 1XL is a no-cost option. I would actually consider this since I am not a big fan of runflats (none of my current cars have them, including my other BMWs w/o spare tires) and my first replacement set of tires for the X7 would most likely not be runflats since I would get the space saver spare (and be ready to use it if necessary).

Too bad there appears to be an apparent interlock that prevents getting the non-runflat wheel/tire as an option with the M-Sport package, which has only one 21" wheel option (option 1PB, 21" Double-spoke bi-color orbit grey wheels, style 754M with all-season runflat).

Did you ever get this storage tray, either through your dealer or another BMW parts vendor? Now that I have my X7, I want this tray as I intend to make my own space saver spare kit in the future - but I want the tray now for better storage organization. However, when I searched for this part now, every vendor I found, including overseas vendors, had this part labeled as "discontinued". Even the two online parts catalogs I use seem to indicate that this part is very scarce. I am scratching my head on this one since this part is just a straight forward plastic piece on a new model that has been in production for a while now....

Unavailable because of some infinite back-order. I was told I would be notified when it arrives. Not holding my breath since X7 bits and pieces seem to be in scarce supply.

Well that checks based on what I have seen. How much did the dealer quote you for the cost of the part?

I don't know offhand I would have to look it up but I think it was around $190. Whatever list was they said they could take 10% off.

Ouch, the cheap SOB in me is ranting inside right now... But I guess I should not be surprised that BMW wants that much for a relatively simple molded piece of plastic (which costs more than the entire space saver spare option)....

I may be confusing the price with the one for my E63 Wagon but off the top of my head I know it was whatever list was with 10% discount.

For those who did not get the Space Saver Spare option and are interested in this storage part for the spare tire area, I may have been able to find it. Every US online vendor that I searched stated that this part was unavailable (or even discontinued which made no sense of course). I didn't bother with my local dealer since they use the same BMW parts system that the online BMW vendors use (not to mention the local dealer would not have been the best price either). Even several overseas vendors were coming up short as well.

However, I think I did find a vendor that has it. And I verified that they did in fact have the part and that it was not on some type of terminal backorder - $119 shipped ($33 is the shipping charge if you were curious). The part is supposed to ship out on Monday and it is coming from overseas (the UK) so I will let you know how it turns out. This is not the first time I have bought BMW parts from overseas vendors. For those of you who are not too familiar with doing this, many times parts from overseas can be cheaper than buying them stateside, even taking into account shipping.

Awesome. Thanks for the update. When you receive it, please look on the bottom to see if there is a p/n that we could use and if not a link to the vendor you purchased through.

I used the same part number I provided above, re-verifying it in both of the online parts catalogs that I use (RealOEM and Bimmercat). I just didn't want to put the vendor name out there yet until I actually received the part, just in case.....

Did you order the plastic plugs and screws to secure it in place?

There is no separate part number for the two plastic screws that keep the tray secured. The expanding rivets that you see in the parts diagram link I provided above are to keep the two side pieces in place, which you already have installed in the car. If you take a look at the pic you posted in your original post, you can see the difference between the plastic screw in the tray and the expanding rivet on the side piece.

I will speculate that the two plastic screws on the tray are integrated into the tray - hence no separate part numbers. I have seen this before with other similarly constructed parts. If not, I will figure something out after I get the tray....

This link shows a better shot of the two side pieces (and the 3 expanding rivets per side) with the tray lifted up. You can also see the bottom side of the integrated screws in the tray as well...

Well, 61 days after placing my order, dealing with the worst shipping delay and customer service I have ever experienced (which was more the company than COVID, IMO), the tray finally came in today. As I mentioned previously, at the time of my order I could not find this part available from any US vendors, and only two overseas vendors that would ship to the US. Unfortunately, I went with the wrong overseas vendor... Some pics of the tray are below. Of note, the plastic "screws" that hold the tray in place are integrated with the tray which confirms why there is no separate part number for them. You just need to twist them 90 degrees to unlock/lock them.

With any luck, availability for this part stateside is better now. But if not, I can't recommend the vendor that I ordered this part from: LLLParts UK. Maybe I was just unlucky as "stuff happens", but after dealing with this debacle, looking at the reviews for this company over 33% of their reviews were very negative with similar issues as mine (i.e. 1-star) - which is pretty bad from a company customer service perspective. The recommended overseas vendor I would go with (and whom I have used in the past and should have used) is Schmiedmann. Their shipping is pretty fast and rates are good (despite some additional delays due to COVID right now), and they confirmed they could get this part (but you may need to email them).

Now it is time for me to finally finish my X7 spare tire/emergency equipment project. But that is for another thread ....

Yes, this tray comes as part of the Space Saver Spare option.

I guess I didn't pay attention when I took out my spare to put air in it.
