What's the original MSRP? You should be targeting 10%+ off MSRP with 4,600 miles on the clock, imo. Just three months ago we were getting 9% off custom builds.

When I get loaners, I run them hard, always to the max. Maybe it’s just me...

Original MSRP was 82,945 so a little over 9% taken off. Good point on people running them hard. I wonder If I am just better off looking for the same features as the pricing is not much different on a new model after the deal is done...

I have bought service loaners before with absolutely no problems. But the price seems too high for a used X7. Closer to $70K would be a reasonable price.

I have purchased 2 one year old service loaners from two different German brands and have no regrets. To me it's no different than any other preowned vehicle.
Full satisfaction and would do it again. Strong recommend. |

b58 can take a lot of abuse. I'd have zero concerns buying a loaner if it's spotless, but at $76, meh. We built our msport, ext merino, luxury, winter, and another $1500 in options at around $81K...3 miles on odo.

Not that I wouldn't want to consider a loaner, I think they are probably well maintained and mileage is low, but it's the price. You get used car because of reduce your own depreciation but, but not at this kind of price, which with a little extra, you can order a brand new with option and colors of your choice.

I used to sell cars in the 80's. New cars are not marked up that much, but... There is a number that no dealer will ever go under. Never.
So whatever the price of the loaner, it will never be at a loss. That means that as long as there is inventory, you should be able to negotiate a good price for the loaner and then tell the dealer you'll wait and take a new one at that price.

I had considered a loaner before buying new.
The one thing that made me go new was the finance rate and the fact you will be a second owner if buying a loaner. Finance rate for a new car is 2.9% whereas a loaner being second hand is between 7 and 10%. Makes a big difference on the monthly payments. In the UK most people buy new because of the great discounts and low finance rates. That’s why there are a lot of second hand X7s on the forecourt.

As some have mentioned, if the spec is what you like, then focus on price, not the potential for abuse. The miles are low and while some patrons may "abuse" loaners, this is an X7, not a 335, so the type of "abuse" would be minimal if any. Typically the type of abuse loaners get is cosmetic, not from people drag racing at every stop light. So if the typical nicks and dings of a used car AND price are acceptable to you, then make the deal.
Unfortunately, due to current used car prices being affected by COVID, you may not have that much negotiating room so going new may not be that bad of an option if you can find a better spec that you want.

All great advice, thanks all for the input. I will at the very least see about getting another 4-5K off and then make a decision. Let see how quickly they want to let this thing go.

You should also keep mind that if you decided to go the route of a new build, some key options will be missing, such as upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo, wireless charging, enhanced USB and bluetooth. This the current status of supply shortages and there is a possibility of more features being taken away by the time you get your car built.

Our 2020 X7 was a loaner with 3,000 miles on it and was the color we liked and pretty loaded. They gave it to my wife to drive while her 2017 750 was being serviced and we ended up just buying the loaner. As I recall, we got about 8% off MSRP, but we also got a very good price for the 750.
We have had no trouble at all with it and would do it again. |

I paid 76,800 for my custom build MSRP at 85,295. That's 10%. I personally wouldn't buy it. |

It's really not that big of a deal. Car was never titled and comes with a new car warranty. Car is used the minute you drive it off the lot and has the same risk.

My car had 3 miles and was never possibly beaten on by countless folks who could care less about the car more then trying not to physically damage it. If you don’t think people will beat on an X7 or any high end vehicle you’re most definitely mistaken. So no the risk is absolutely not the same. Personally I don’t care what warranty they’ll add to the purchase. Im not about to spend time taking it to the dealer or service or fighting them to take back their used car because I no longer have lemon law rights on a used car that was used as a fleet vehicle. To me a few thousand is nothing in comparison to countless possible issues that could arise from unknown damages. I’m not a gambling guy. If you see it differently then good luck.
