Surprised the BMW Genius at your local dealer did not go over every feature on the car thoroughly. I would call and ask if you can do that. If you thought the vents were closed all the time I can bet there's tons more about this car that you do not know about yet.

It would take 2 hours to go over every single part of the car. No one has time for that (except for the retired).

I was a BMW genius for 5 years.

Going over every single button and feature would never take 25 mins even to the tech savvy customer on a vehicle like that. If they're on the other end of the tech spectrum, they'd tap put after 90 minutes and come back in a week with a notebook of questions and an owners manual filled with post its.

Absolutely no chance that car would get a thorough delivery in 25 minutes.

I suppose you mean about the stop sale? The dealer is not allowed to sell me the car until they confim that the issues that caused the stop sale are resolved. The resoltuion is a software patch, but my dealer has not been able to confirm the exact patch with BMW. Once they get that sorted, then they can offically sell the car.
They don't get the choice which patch to apply.

They just flash the whole car with whatever the latest available istep is, and now that the 22-07 istep is out they should just get 4.36.3 and be done with it .

Initial thoughts on driving it:

Engine and Drivetrain - Very smooth and lots of power. It comes on about like you would expect. My prior experience was in a 2022 GLS 450. The BMW is way smoother when taking off from a stop than the Mercedes. . I would say it is a much better driving experience than the GLS.

The transmission worked well. I hardly noticed it as I was driving around, it does its job very well. Another plus

Handling - Great, as you would expect from a BMW. Great feel around corners. We have a lot of round-abouts locally and it was very composed going through those. I probably go through them faster than I should.

Others - Love the seats, super comfy and adjustable. Note: the car came with two pillows for the second row headrests. I thought it was an option, seems like it is standard (not in any of the packages I picked). We have three kids, so I guess that will be a point of contention now.

Glass controls: I was a bit worried about my choice here. It seems it was a love or hate thing on 2022 models. The controls are smaller in the 2023, so the glass controls seem less "pimpish" than before. There isn't a large shifting stalk like prior models, just a smaller switch that fits in with the rest of the car. I am happy with my choice here. Oh, and I had no issues with sunlight and glare.

iDrive 8 is okay. I am completely new to it. Last I saw of iDrive was in a 2017 X5. I feel like I am an Apple user that has just been handed an Android phone. Everything is familiar but different. It also seems to come on and stay on too much. Again, probably a setting to deal with. We will chat with the local genius to sort some of that out.

that about all I got.

PS - If you want to see something specific on the car picture wise, let me know and I will do my best.

Yup, that will happen for sure. Got an intro but our schedules conflicted for a full demo.

Not yet - honestly I need to look at that more. I've recently watched videos showing how easy it is to compromise a digital key and take off in the car. I've got some more investigating to do on that feature before I set it up. I'm probably being overly cautious here. I probably have some PTSD from dealing with hackers a bunch in my professional life.

Took me more than 25 mins to go through all the menus when I got my X5. Sure Speedy G could do it faster but how much of it would sink in?

It's not a race etc.

Looks about standard. No need to be concerned. Be glad there is cross bracing vs not.

It’s an xDrive 40, not a GT3.

This is the first time I am noticing this on the 2023. I guess everyone else knew not to take a pic at this angle. The lights I can get around, but the lines being offset this bad looks so awkward.

The plot thickens...

So it turns out that others were right to note that it was odd for me to have the car. BMW was not happy about it either. the car is now back at the dealer. So everything I previously posted about my understanding was correct. there is/was s stop sale (verses a stop drive) and there was an indicator that there was a fix. That fix was applied.

The dealer misunderstood what BMW intended or something got lost in translation as they (BMW) have since decided that the stop sale fix may not be the fix after all. At some point soon BMW will get this figure out and release the cars.
