2023 X7 ambient lighting

Did they really cut down on the amount of led strips in the 2023 model. I really liked the dashboard strips that went across the whole dash. Looks the the 2023 on has the design on the right side and that's it

Would not say they really cut down on anything. It is more of a reorganization.
Some amazing ambient lighting that adds to the lavishness of the cabin. Not only is there an X7-embedded light pattern running alongside the dashboard, but there are also ambient lights all over the cabin.
Perhaps the most impressive of those lights is the light bar running through the instrument panel which welcomes you with a fancy sequence every time you open the car and also visualizes incoming calls with a dynamic 'chaser' light pulsing in tandem with the first row's contour lighting.

The ambient lighting is the new 7 series is very cool - I hope they eventually move to that

I don't have a hard time reading posts by people who can write in a concise manner. You seem like you just copied some BMW press release….odd to say the least.

The Ambient lighting in the 2023 model vs 2022 seems like a step back. 2022 seems classier and more luxurious. 2023 seems cheesy in comparison and tacky with awkward lines across the passenger side with an X7 right after that. I’m disappointed in the newer interior execution, and implementation of the ambient lights.

Here are some pics :)

First 3 photos are the LCI, '23 and newer: Only the << | | >> X7 graphic is illuminated (or //////M graphic if optioned with the M-Sport package). No other illumination on the dashboard.

Next 3 photos are of the pre-LCI: Two light bars go across the dash. Top one is a light strip that extends to the AC vent. Bottom one is a downward-firing recessed light strip which goes all the way to the right window, and there's also a short segment going from the left side of the steering wheel to the left window.

LCI looks fine to me. Doesn’t look cheesy. Just my opinion anyways.

I had a 2020 X5 and the layout is the same as the older X7. So yes it is less lights but I think it’s well done.

Thanks PinkNinja400Guy. I've got an LCI and will try to get up pics of it at night.

So, in the LCI I really don't like the X7//M graphic on the passengers side. it's kinda annoying, like barista "haut cuooofee" annoying. At night it projects reflections on the passenger side window making hard to see outside especially if you have tinted windows like I do.

Overall, I prefer the LCI lighting as it's not so in your face with the two strips. I did own a pre-LCI and thought it was awesome too. At night I just find all the lighting a little bit overwhelming and actually turn my lighting down a bit. I wish I could turn the X7 graphic off though. I may try to locate the wires for it and put an inline switch or something.

Overall BMW is screwing this whole X7 lineup up. from 2019 - 2024, we literally have 4, maybe 5 versions of the X7. I get the supply chain didn't help, but at least stick to a pre-LCI and LCI roll-out.
I loved my pre-LCI and now LCI X7s, so don't want or need for any of the new LCI features coming out this year, but makes me hesitate to go with BMW in our next vehicle.

Yes I know what you mean. The reflection at night is pretty bad. It would be nice if they had an option to dim that section at night lower than the others instead of dimming the whole set up.

I personally think the X7 LCI ambient lighting is lacking - but that is strictly just my opinion and I definitely see how others might prefer the LCI's ambient lighting situation. In fact, I was kinda wanting the X7 pre-LCI to have the double lines of light on each door, so I'm definitely all for more ambient lighting and kinda polarized in my view. But, perhaps, not too polar as I don't really like the ambient lighting on the new S-class - feels like you're in a club and it's not really my vibe. For me I think I'm fine with more lighting as long as the execution is good. Personally, I can't give this up - but that's just me:

The pre-LCI ambient lighting is similar across many other BMW models, my 5 series has similar lighting, the new one makes the X7 stand out in the lineup, though I agree, I am not a fan of in your face X7 which stands in contrast to the rest of the sophisticated execution. I like the ambient lighting in the 7 series which is behind the crystal like effect on the dash, wish they had done the same on the X7.

BMW also seems to be releasing nuggets thru over the air updates, who knows they might have something up their sleeve, though will have to confirm if hardware is present in the cars for that.

There is now ambient lighting inside the lower door pocket and the little thing where the door handle is. I don’t love the “M” or “X7” strip going along the front panel, think it looks cheap.

Both of those should be illuminated on the pre-LCI as well. They definitely are on my '22.

Yeah, it's on my pre-LCI (MY2020) as well .... if the circled parts are what you're referring to:

And yeah, I think the X7 or M strips going along the front passenger trim looks good, but just a little gimmicky on the LCI. If decorating that panel was an absolute must with the design team over at BMW, then I would have preferred it to be laser etched onto the wood trim in sparkly silver font for the "X7" and in sparkly cerium grey font for the M (similar in fashion to how BMW Individual orders can print their name or whatever onto the panel) ... but perhaps that's too much to ask for haha
