Seems like the car lacks focus, and doesn't really know what it wants to be

What do you mean by "seems like"?

When a falcon wants to be a tiger who wants to be a trout who wants to be a rattlesnake, you get an XM

XM = eXperiment for M.

Feels like the XM is just a textbook exercise for things to come for BMW M as they begin to move toward hybridization and electrification.

Reviews read like BMW executed well on each aspect but failed to tie it all together as a singular vehicle.

Not going to lie though, I am far more intrigued in the XM than the G Wagen and if I had to pick at gun point, I would pick the XM. I will probably get flamed for this but the G Wagen does absolutely nothing for me.

For the first time ever, this BMW fan boy, wants this car to fail epically. All the reviews are consistent. Tries to please too many constituents, backseat comfort sucks.

Reviews won't matter, I'm sure these will sell well. A lot of people just want a BMW SUV doesn't matter how it looks or drives.

In Canada, we have a luxury tax on vehicles over $100k. The XM carries a $20k+ luxury tax. While those looking at these vehicles have the financial means, most are against the idea of just giving the government $20k.

Customers are cancelling G Wagen orders because of the tax which you never see for G Wagen’s.

These will sell but will be a lot harder to move and will likely sit on dealership lots a lot longer than expected.

Is this a new thing? I still feel I see luxo SUVs crawling all around Vancouver BC

A least in the US there's a Section 179 tax deduction which incentivizes such purchases.

I’m not completely familiar with B.C. sales tax laws but if I remember correctly, BC had their own “luxury tax” where the provincial tax rate (which already exists) changed depending on the price of the vehicle.

With the new luxury tax law applicable across Canada, you would be paying the luxury tax amount PLUS any applicable sales tax - essentially taxes on top of taxes and the luxury tax is paid up front. For the XM with $20k in luxury tax, that would have to be paid upfront as due on delivery regardless if it’s lease or cash. Imagine leasing a vehicle and having to pay $20k upfront for a car you’re going to return in 3-4 years.

You are Lucky. US $270,000 in Australia. (Just over $400k AUD). We are very heavily taxed.
