Rotating Tires?
The camber on BMW’s seems to wear the inner edge of tire more quickly. Does anyone have their tires remounted so they can rotate the inner/outer edge of their tires?

I didn’t realize there was an inside and outside on a non directional tire. But apparently that is a thing. They can rotate left/right, but always have to keep the outside shoulder in the same spot. Interesting. Unfortunately it doesn’t help with trying to balance the shoulder wear from the camber.

From the X7 owner's manual:
Warning A wheel change between the axles on vehicles with different tire sizes or rim sizes on the front and rear axles can cause damage to the tires and the vehicle. There is a risk of accident. Do not rotate the tires between the axles on vehicles with different tire sizes or rim sizes on the front and rear axles. Different abrasion patterns can occur on the front and rear axles depending on individual driving conditions. The tires can be rotated in pairs between the axles to achieve even abrasion. Further information is available from an authorized service center or another qualified service center or repair shop. After changing, check the tire pressure and correct, if needed. So if you are on a square setup should be OK. And if I am reading this correctly, it's OK to rotate on a staggered setup but keeping them on the same axle??? |

I rotate my 21” mixed weather touring wheels/AS tires about every 3k. Easy to do and the “X” pattern rotation keeps the tread wear pattern perfect on all 4.

I’ll have to be more diligent with this going forward. I have the square 21” setup - and will try the X pattern for rotation going forward.

I have the square 21” setup. I’m not sure how much longer the tread life would be with rotating these tires vs not at all.
I can say from my experience without rotating (no aggressive driving, mix of 65% city, 35% highway) the original tires lasted 19,000 miles. At that point the rears were near the wear-bars at the inner aspect. The fronts still had 6/32. I’m sure the tread life would be better with rotating but how many more miles would I get? Maybe an extra 5k - 8k miles is my guess MAX. Anyone who’s got a square setup care to tell how many miles they’ve been able to go on on a set of tires with rotations?

My original tires on my 2020 X7 were Bridgestone Alenza Sport All Season NON run flat tires (285/45 R21 square setup). I rotated them 3 times around 7K miles each time.
I got 34K miles out of them before I bought the same set of tires again from my dealer. They price matched Discount tire's pricing even with my military discount. I could have gotten at least another 4K miles out of them but it was approaching winter at the time so I just bought new ones. I now have 13K on the second set of tires and I haven't rotated them. I want to see how many fewer miles, if any, I get out of the tires by not rotating them. Keep in mind that I'm talking about NON Run Flat tires here. I believe you will wind up with significantly less mileage on Run Flat tires. I personally will never own Run Flat tires for several reasons. |

Have you noticed any uneven wear? I'm at 17.5k miles, never rotated. Front and rear both measure between 7/32 and 6/32.

My understanding is that timely tire rotations not only improves the life of tires, but also leads to wear of tires evenly. When the tires start accumulating uneven wear, this will lead to misalignments of the suspension components. Also it will impact the drive comforts, like the car could start pulling to certain directions at highway speed, which would require constant corrections from the driver as well as auto mode. I would be more concerned on this aspect, versus the overall life of tires. |
