Jump starting

For future reference, I want to know where is best to "jump start" my 2020 X3.

I have one of those NOCO jump start units for emergency purposes. Typically I would attach it directly to the car battery for a jump.......BUT.......I see that under the hood there is a remote connection for connecting cables for a jump start.

My question: IF a jump start is required, is it best to connect directly to the car's battery (in the rear) ..... OR...... is it best to connect to the "remote" connection that's under the hood?

My guess (but only a guess) it would be best to connect under the hood since that is much easier than taking apart or lifting panels in the rear to access the battery directly..........

Anyone?

Thx

Have not used on X4…. But had to do so on Audi TTs and wifeys LR… both with under the hood receptacles. Use under the hood for jumping… that’s the main reason they exist. Works flawlessly.

BMW recommends you jump start the car from under the hood:

On the X3 the negative chassis ground is a rather large bolt, can't miss it under the passenger side of the hood.

Always use the connection in the engine bay. The only reason to access battery in the trunk is to replace it.

I've used this portable charger in the past. Works well and no other car needed.

Thanks but I prefer the NOCO GB40 for jumps starting all of my cars, motorcycle and boat if/when needed. (luckily seldom used). About $100 but very well made with lots of other features (emergency lighting, cell phone charging etc etc.)

No problem. Just as an fyi to others, the $42 Nexpow has the same emergency lighting and cell charging features. I also have an earlier purchased $100 NOCO but decided on the Nexpow to keep in our other car for half the cost.

Attach it to the front terminals. It's easy - power must be delivered to the engine starter, ECU, ignitor - no point in transferring "precious" amperes from the rear. It's said that those cables (I think 5 m of them) are not the best quality - like 20 mm2 of solid copper. I wouldn't be surprised they were aluminium copper coated. Just just to crank the engine if the battery is OK.
