Lost physical key; help!!

I lost one of the two physical keys, and am 95% certain the key is at home.

It’s been a week and we couldn’t find it.

Is there any device or so to detect or find the signal so I can find the key? If it’s lost, how much does it cost to get another key programming to remove the old one?

pretty sure the keys stop transmitting after 5 minutes being stationary, power savings and prevents relay attacks.

My wife lost her key to my X7 and the cost was approximately $500 to replace and $200 to program new fob. Oddly, during the programming of the new fob, dealership found lost one in the car. I thought this odd since the car should not have locked with fob inside.

You would think, but my X7 has locked a few times with the key inside.

Edit: It's really fun when it's at the car wash and it happens. I think it's because i did the phone as a key thing. The car is "smart" enough to use the phone as a key, but then can't figure out what to do when the physical key is left in the vehicle and locks the doors as you walk away. I think I'm going to disable the phone as a key feature because of this issue.

So what do you do when you drop it off for service? Bring in the physical key and drop it in the door handle or cup holder? And then listen to the car lock as you walk away? LOL. They have not perfected that piece of tech yet.

Mostly forgetting to bring physical key
Then i just share digital key to known service or cleaning company worker
When i dot forget physical key then just pass it to service guy no need to leave it in car.

Not sure I read everything correctly, but if you leave a key in the vehicle and have a 2nd key, can't you unlock the door with the physical key ("Integrated Key") in the door handle if necessary?

my complaint is that when you hop out of your car at the front of the car wash line and drop your key in the cup holder, and then they have to come find you because the car is locked, it's stupid and annoying.

I use digital key with my iphone. Door never locks automatically. Always left car unlocked in the garage. Never have problem.

How do you get the digital key on your iPhone? Neither of our X7's are hooked up like this.
TIA!

I lose my keys all the time. After you find it make sure to put an AirTag on it. Life saver!

X7 definitely locks with a key inside, which is incredibly dumb. My 13-year old Chevy doesn't do that and my '24 X7 does.

Even the mechanic at the BMW dealer asked me to give him the fob and not leave the fob inside, since new X7's have a tendency to lock with keys inside.

I'm wondering if it's a simple as turning off the 'Lock when walking away from the vehicle' feature. The car senses the cell phone walking away and doesn't care about the fob in the car. Maybe turning that off before car washes or services is the way to go.

And yes, this is a highjacked thread....

On my 2023, go to bmw app and program digital key. Follow on screen instruction. You will need two physical keys inside to “prove” ownership for it to work.

Just curious...does your 13 year old Chevy have the multiple digital/keyless options as your new X7?

Your BMW can use a mechanical key, a physical remote fob...as well as the capability of lock/unlock with a cell phone, a watch, or a (NFC) card. And the BMW also has the comfort access "proximity" lock/unlock capability where there's no need to press or touch anything.

Now that we have these additional methods of lock/unlock...depending on how you have the vehicle set, the traditional methods/features may not work as they used to. You may have to determine if you need to readjust or turn a feature off or on and stick with one method of lock/unlock. Using multiple methods may cause issues when they overlap.

Just a thought.
