The turn in is not as sharp. Bumps are muted. Traction isn’t as great on dry surface. I think these are good trade offs for having an A/S tire, tires that are 50% less cost with likely 50% longer life, smoother over bumps, and useful in wet and light snow conditions. I feel like on cement(or whatever it is), they ride louder than the summer RFT and override wind/engine noise. On asphalt or similar, they are quiet and I’ll hear engine and wind noise before tire noise. Back to OP: I’d buy after market if the deal refuses to warranty this. |

Just got a text saying the car is ready. Going to go pick it up in an hour. He said they were able to update the idrive software without replacing the battery.
Funny how when I ask for it to be covered under warranty, the part is no longer an issue and doesn't need to be replaced. They also said they change the oil, but the app still shows oil service due. They said they did an alignment too. We'll see if they actually did anything. |

Got the car back. Here's their latest round of excuses.
They said the BMS indicated the battery capacity at 80% or greater. A load test shows the battery at 11.2v. They said BMW's policy for battery replacement is if the load test is under 10.8v or the BMS indicate battery capacity is under 50%. So they refused to replace it under warranty. When asked about all the issues due to low voltage including inability to install the OTA, they said they manually updated (with a 12V booster hooked up) to latest 03/2024.53 (confirmed). And that they couldn't replicate the other issues. ( I was able to reproduce one of them while picking it up in their parking lot) They said they kept the car for 3 days to test what the battery level looks like after sitting over night and that they found it to vary between 11.8 and 12.1v which BMW considers acceptable. They forgot to do the alignment, and they claim they did the oil change, however the on board indicator still shows oil change needed. i'm leaving for a week long work trip so taking the car home for now, and will return it next month to get the oil change indicator reset (or oil actually changed, can't tell if they really changed it this time, although they claim they did and the paperwork show the parts for oil change). Will also get wheel alignment done. They claim the estimate for new tires was a typo and that instead of $5k, it's actually $2700 (which is still quite a bit higher than other places). |

basically yes, the BMS needs to be told that a new battery has been installed so it resets the charging curve. IIRC as the battery ages, the charging system increases the charging voltage. if you replace the battery without resetting this, the new battery keeps getting charged at the higher voltage, reducing its life.

Have tried both ways using the jump terminals under the hood as the charge point. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Takes the charger anywhere from 12 hours to 48 hours to indicate it's full, depending on the initial state of charge (how long it's been sitting parked).

There’s coding….and there’s registration. These TWO different things oft get conflated as if they were the same…they are not the same thing.
REGISTRATION is required anytime you change the battery. Registration sets a new baseline for the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) as it communicates with the car’s power management system. CODING is required if you replace the battery with a different type or one with different specs.
