Hello fellow members,
I currently have an oil leak on my 2019 BMW X7 x-drive 50i (N63M). It currently has 106,000 miles and noticed it when I was doing some preventative maintenance.

It’s on the left side of the rear of the engine. It appears to be near the intake manifold based off of diagrams from realoem. I have attached pictures for reference.

Any assistance with what could possibly be leaking around that area would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! Over 100k is awesome for this motor. Glad to see it as I plan on keeping my XB7 forever.

Can you see the seam around the valve cover on that cylinder head? I'm not too familiar with n/s63 motor, but on n/s55's oil leaks at the valve cover gasket are unfortunately extremely common. I'd look for leaks there to start off.

Just thought I’d update on the outcome. So I took it to the dealership and their master technician determine it was coming from the front differential. He stated that the seal appeared fine but the differential was leaking from the rear away from the seal. He stated that the differential would have to be replaced. I then took it to an independent BMW shop to get a second opinion. They determined that the front differential was completely fine and that the leak was actually coming from the transmission cooler lines. They replaced them and stated there is no longer an oil leak. I will confirm in a couple of weeks of having it back to make sure.

Really scary that a BMW master tech misdiagnosed a leak as coming from the differential back side where there's no seal, and wanted to change it out.

Inasmuch as you had the transmission cooler lines replaced, did you have the transmission serviced also? Was the fluid level down much, or had you caught the leak soon after it began?

I'm also pleased to learn you've clocked 100K+ miles on your N63. Mine's a '22 and I plan to keep it until it or I cease ticking.

I didn’t have the transmission service done because I actually did it myself a few weeks ago which is how I found the leak in the first place. They said the oil level was short about 1.5 qrts so it definitely was leaking a good amount.
