New Member - Downpipes / Exhaust Question
Hello, new member here. I picked up a 2021 X7 M50i last November and have had an itch to improve the exhaust volume. Not 100% on needing to switch the exhaust. Considering a few options. Dahler controller. Full cat back exhaust. Or 400 cell catted downpipes that are designed to not throw a CEL. Love the cost of the Dahler, but not sure it’ll yield enough. Exhaust is pricey and I am concerned that the OEM downpipes are restricting the volume significantly. Downpipes seem like a win but it’s hard to find definitive info as to whether or not it’ll throw a code. I definitely want to pass emissions down the road and the car still has some decent warranty life so I am not super interested in tuning. Also looking for feedback on the JB4 setup as I might explore that as well. Thanks!

Depends on how aggressive you want the exhaust note to be. Daehler controller doesn't give you a noticeable increase in volume. DPs are definitely a good option but expensive. There are cat back exhausts but IMHO the result you get does not justify the price in most cases. A resonator delete/x-pipe install or rear muffler delete are other options. Do a research in the X5 forum as the sound will be almost the same on X5 and X7 m50 models as they share the N63B44T3 engine.

Thanks, that’s helpful. Tale of two ears I suppose. It’s my daily, but it’s also the car we use for road trips and almost anytime we take our 15 month old somewhere. I’m looking for the flexibility of the valved system where it can be tame in comfort and eco, and a bit more raw in sport modes. These cars make plenty of power but other than cold start, they’re pretty quiet. Love the way the AMG V8s roar as well as other options like the Cayenne Turbo.

Anyone have experience with just installing secondary cat deletes? I did that on my 958.2 Cayenne GTS and it was a nice upgrade - I didn’t feel the need to mess with anything beyond that. Granted, the Cayenne allowed you to choose the exhaust mode independent of drive mode…if the X7 allows that, I haven’t figured it out yet

Congrats!
I'm getting ready to add a Downpipe to mine as it is the best way to gain extra sound and HP together for the price, you will get a CEL but if you have a Bootmod3 OTS Flash it won't trigger any https://bootmod3tuning.com/v8-fxx/p/...less-downpipes

Couple quick questions here. Can anyone confirm they were able to purchase an Enet Cable locally vs online? (Auto Zone, Napa, Pep Boys, O'Reillys?) Can anyone confirm how long new users sit in PM jail before they can use arguably the most helpful tool on this forum? I am hoping to pick up an Enet cable and use RG33 to code in some useful items and I was wondering if he still offers remote coding. Looking to add anti dazzle among others. TIA
