Locking Lug Nuts
So I gave FCP Euro my VIN number for locking lug nuts and they gave me this part number:
36136897735 But here's my problem. When I bought the car, the previous owner downgraded to 21" 754M style wheels then removed and sold the 22" 758i style wheels that came on the car. I know the previous wheel via the build sheet that I have. How can I verify that the lugs for these two styles of wheels are the same? Also need to know this for some custom Volare wheels that I'm having made. |

don't bother with locks complete waste of money and can only cause problems if the key gets misplaced.
my lock key went missing half way through changing my s2000's wheels. looked everywhere so thought some smart ass kid swiped it while i wasnt looking. went to tire "shop" on a brooklyn street corner and removed all 4 locks in less than 2 minutes. including the guy grabbing his tools. found the key 6 years later wedged against my engine mount and block... they are the same lugs. all X7s (and all factory wheels) use M14X 1.25, they should be two piece with the rotating seat.
that being said... locking lugs will only deter the most casual thief. they are easily defeated by a socket set sold on amazon https://www.amazon.com/YEKEPRO-Remov.../dp/B0BWTHJH9Z and they usually cause more problems than they are worth... drop your car off at the dealer and they blast them back on with an impact gun? you are fscked the next time you go to remove them. and that invariably will happen at the side of the road trying to change a flat. in a snow storm. when you have to get somewhere. i got a set of mcgard locks when i got my x7, used them for one season then never put them back on.

Yeah, forget the locks. They're more hassle than they are worth.

Also weighing into my decision to drop the locking lugs, at least on the lci, the alarm going off ( theres a tilt and motion sensor) sends a notification to the app and does a video recording of the area around the car. ( i set off the alarm jacking up the car to swap wheels with my keys away)

I also can't imagine the X7 being a super high target for wheel theft regardless. Wheels are stolen to sell through eBay, junkyards, Craigslist, etc... so there needs to be a big enough market to justify the risk. This is why you see it's very common to happen to Accords or Camrys as there's just a much larger market for it. Just look at the classifieds here and the market for X7 wheels are way smaller.

Remind us again where you park your car and how long you'll be away from it.
