If you have never properly cleaned and conditioned the leather, I would go that route first.. once you re-dye it can be hard to keep the leather clean also without messing up the dye/removing it. I’d try sonax or gyeon leather cleaner followed by the BMW UV leather conditioner/cleaner. If you want a full reset, you could use leatherique. Problem with leatherique is it almost works too well and will bring out leather imperfections you didn’t know were there. When that happens you have to keep using it over many applications, which takes a long time. You still need to condition the leather also after using leatherique. The bmw conditioner leaves a nice matte finish.

Regardless I’d start with that before dying or serious professional repair. I think you’d be surprised with how much better your damage looks after that, especially if you’ve never gotten all that dirt and oil off the seats.

Just read this again, start with a better cleaner than meguiars.. the 3 I suggested will surprise you! The seat will probably go from looking damaged to just looking like it had pitina that is respectable for the mileage and age of the car. Keep the cleaning and conditioning up and you should be good. Merino leather requires alot of care.

If Coulorlock has a matching dye, I would try their Leather Fresh Dye Kit with Leather Cleaner. Leather Doctors definitely has matching color. There are other companies as well. It can't hurt, other than being out about $100. Plenty of DIY videos out there. If you don't like the results, you can always go to a professional or find a matching replacement seat (eBay?).

Sonax leather cleaner will remove all dirt and residue. It leaves a factory matte finish. You should do this anyway to get a proper evaluation of the condition of your leather. The stuff is amazing.

I’ve had other leather cleaners and conditioners make the leather softer so much so that it caused premature wear and failure of the leather. Have you noticed any increase in softness to the leather vs the original condition of the leather? Did you also use the Sonax leather conditioner following the sonax cleaner?

Not to the point it “over moisturize” to cause any wear. That problem is really rare and usually associated with low end leather treatments that contain silicone. Sonax is the house brand of many high end European autos.
