X7 toddler safety issue?

Anyone tracking the recent Hyundai Palisades issue where a child died being crushed by a bench seat crushing her? Four other children have been seriously injured in like situations. We are considering an X7 with bench middle row. I tested an adult in the middle row with the door ajar, and then tried to fold the seat. The seat didn't stop until a significant amount of crush force stopped it. Don't know if I just tested a bad copy. Anyone try this with either a middle bench or 3rd row seats on your X7s?

Put a teddy bear or large doll or a bundle of clothes that would be about the size of a small child then fold the 2nd row rear seat down to see if there is a safety reverse that would stop the seat from crushing a child if for some reason the button got pushed to start folding the seat.

You can do the same thing for the windows…take something soft like a rolled up towel or magazine etc and place it in the path of the windows…they should stop and reverse when any pressure if made on the windows as they are raised.

Another possible hazard is soft-close doors…if you have them then you really need to pay attention to small children and also let teens and older adults know NOT to let any body part (fingers/hands/etc) get between the door and vehicle body when closing the door and it gets to the place that auto soft close takes over. There is a pinch hazard and there is probably a warning in the owners manual.

I’ve done this experiment on a 2023. 2024, and most recently a 2026 x7. Both middle row bench and 3rd row have the on the rigs. If you own an x7, please be careful if you have very young children playing around them unsupervised.

Thanks for posting back…but can you clarify what you wrote in your quote? I’m not sure what you were trying to say.

Wow -- I really butchered that sentence, didn't I!!! What I meant to say was, both middle row bench seats and 3rd row seats demonstrated the crushing peril on the X7 rigs my family and I have tested. This includes a 2026 x7 that we tested at Lexus of Seattle. The salesman was shocked.

I'm attempting to attach my son-in-law testing for the crushing issue to illustrate the problem. What I didn't video is me placing my are in the seat, and trying to resist the seat back as it was closing. I'm a 200 lbs somewhat athletic adult male, and I was not able to apply enough force to stop the seat. Granted, I was in an awkward position trying to apply the force, but I am certain that most toddlers would have been seriously injured in the same position as my arm.

Excellent test. I used my arm, pressing on up on the seat back. Judging by my own strength during weight workouts at the gym, I believe in that awkward position I could apply greater than 40 lbs of force in the direction of the seat back, and I was not able to stop the seat.
