Where I live these high priced SUVs are as common as a camry. G-wagons don't shock or awe anyone anymore because there's just so many of them rolling around. Even the Urus isn't very jaw-dropping anymore because of how repetitive it is. People who shell out cash for these vehicles want something new and interesting, and most of all something that stands out with uniqueness. The ///XM fulfills that need and probably drives like an absolute agile monster even with the heftiness. If I was in this market I'd wanna test drive both this and the upcoming Range Rover that'll also be sporting the S68.

The whole thing is weird. It's selling an idea, some high-performance, eco-friendly, utilitarian hybrid trying to be all things to all people. In that effort, I get the impression it won't do any of those things particularly well and to me stacks of M\\\ marketing to thick wallets concerned with image above all else. Time will tell I suppose.

I think target is not so much of typical suv use but more like luxury vip transport something like Range Rover aims for. They did 5% factory tint in the back clearly meant a to make hard to take pics inside. They are trying for different segment.
Yeah maybe XM is not for us then. We always have a couple BMW SUVs as beaters for our Xsports activities because these are fun to drive and work well from the beach/sand to the mountain snow and carry a lot of stuff. Brands like Range Rover are a joke even the high end versions are terrible to drive comparatively. But maybe BMW is changing the target market to the Lux SUV buyers which perhaps don't need the flexibility of a normal SUV.

Compression ratio is 10.5:1, which is going to make it more prone to bending rods compared to the F90/f96, etc.

Even in Red label spec, this XM is making around 535hp max. A full 100hp down from the m5cs.

On the gt63s amg e-performance. Mercedes took the 640hp engine and added 200hp to this for a total of 840hp. BMW needed to be there for this Xm as well as the next gen M5. The S68 doesn't appear to be in that ballpark, which is unfortunate. Makes for a good sales pitch for all current BMW models with the S63tu4, as it appears it will be the most powerful gas engine if all time from BMW.

At this point I would have rather they kept the S63tu4 and added the 197hp battery to that engine however I'm not sure it would meet emissions up to 2030 which is where this s68b44 is said to be emissions compliant until then.

Mercedes did it right. They offer the e performance as an option on the gt63s and I wish bmw did it here as I doubt anyone would opt for that option 😂
Mercedes new hybrid setup is much more modular than BMW. Merc setup consists of a battery pack and EDU(electric motor, 2 speed trans, LSD). The pack and EDU sits behind driveshaft(rear of car). They can basically take that system and bolt behind any of their ICE powerunits, which no change to ICE or transmission. BMW's system is more old school hybrid, battery under rear seat and a electric motor sandwiched between the ICE and ZF gearbox(layout: engine, clutch, electric motor, clutch, transmission). Maybe BMW is playing it safe with new setup and two clutch packs. There is actually a similar setup in the Wrangler 4xe, sourced by ZF. A second set of clutches and electric motor basically take place of the torque converter. Mercedes hybrid setup is ingenious solution, it will trickle down to a lot more products with a lot less headaches. They could basically apply it across their interior range.

Yeah, for most this is going to be a hard sell over new Range Rover P530 Autobiography. It is going to take customers that just want to be a little different. This luxobarge suv segment includes many well established models.

What I'm baffled about is the starting MSRP of almost 160K for this car. So with options I'm guessing it will be right around 190K-200K mark. So is it really worth the extra 50-60K just to have an additional electric motor and 40 or more hp over X5M and X6M.

Maybe I'm just not getting it but where does this fit in the line up? Who are they trying to compete with? 190K is almost more than non ADM G63 territory. People who are in the market for a Urus are in the price range of XM but someone in the market for a Urus is a completely different type of customer imo. RSQ8 is in X5M/X6M range. Cayenne Turbo/S is up there closer to 180K range, not really sure.

Maybe someone can fill me in? Power to those who are in the market for a 200K SUV and go with XM over a Urus or Cayenne Turbo S, I just think at that price point the market is pretty limited but then again, what do I know..
Here's to hoping many of the options are standard. The X5M only has/had maybe $20K in options available (Competition Package ~$9,000, M-Drivers ~$2500, Full Merino - etc.) so unless this is like the new 7 with the fold down movie screen for rear passengers and such will the options be that high?

As to the styling, I've never liked any of the colors they had on the launch/spec cars. Give me a plain ole white, black or blue and I think this will pop, especially with the illuminated kidney grills.

I think since they don't make a true full-///M badged X7, this is the closest one can get to that amorphous vehicle. Right now our family is really outgrowing our X5M. Two car seats + 6'5'' dad + tiny mommy + all our crap = Griswald Family Vacation everywhere we go. It was tough when we just had our daughter. So perhaps this ticks all the boxes: (1) Hybrid-electric; (2) true ///M badge; (3) full-size SUV; (4) exclusivity; and (5) space. Not necessarily in that order.

$160K is a pretty huge nut to crack. Would be interested to see the lease residuals when the car does actually hit showroom floors. But I think if you have the true First World Problem that is needing car with the above features, couldn't you just get two base SUVs? Seems like it's almost as expensive to get a X5 M50i and an X6 M50i and take both.

Pre-order Confirmed

I just placed my Pre-order. I will need to see this thing in person before committing more funds. Also used the UK configurator to select colors and blacken some of the lines. I am really excited to see this.

lol he's photoshopped on there I think, his video is all stock footage. One of the stock photos shows a guy next to it and he's taller than the car. There's probably some videos of people milling around the concept car that would give a better idea of the size.

Have to crank up the brightness a bit here but it looks like the seats are split for folding in the back. Buttons for folding them might be on the side we can't see

Using the UK configurator, almost everything on the launch car is standard except the comfort package which adds things like massage seats, heating etc for 4k. Driving professional is 2.7k, Bowers & Wilkins Audio, 4k. You can drive out the base model without adding anything. However I do not yet know what the US configurator will look like.

What's the point/benefit of having a PHEV in a SUV this size and price?? The TT V8 is really de-tuned (should be making at least the 523hp/553tq) while keeping the unnecessary extra weight of the hybrid system with its battery. Does anyone with a $200k budget care about mpg?

I don't get it.

I have been thinking about this since it has been unveiled. Why is the TTV8 making less horsepower than the current TT V8's offered by BMW in the current lineup? I get its making over 600hp but why is the engine detuned?

So they can offer the Brand Red (terrible name wtf) at a substantial premium.

I agree with you. Complex drivetrain. Why not go all electric and go H2H with the model X.

So where does this sit in BMW's portfolio? The lack of a model number is really annoying imo. Is this the M version of the iX? And where do the XM/iX slot in amongst X1->X7 ?

The most concerning part to me about this new XM is the weight, which several media outlets are now saying will be over 6,000 lbs in North American specification.

I know it is a SUV and all, but good gawd that is a heavy vehicle. This also explains why it has such mediocre 0-60 times despite massive amounts of power.

Exactly! Mercedes' AMG is going with a 4 banger hybrid and it's still really heavy for a sedan (4700lbs).

I must say... the interior is closer to the concept than I thought it would be.

Here's to hoping 25k in flagship cash and lower MFs about a year after they land =D
