1) reliabilty - if you are willing to sell the car early because of poor reliability, you will most likely not do well on the resale. Lease residuals of 60% are very good compared to recent history. You can also swap a lease to get out early (I assume BMW allows it but am not 100% sure). If reliability is a concern, I would rather lease. 2) lease deals today on x7 are superior to purchase if you are willing to negotiate and are not looking to keep your car beyond three years. Using max MSDs (if allowed) makes leases even more attractive (~8-10% return on money). If you keep the car long-term, then you will always do better with a purchase.

On leases, what do most dealerships do with the money factor? Do they use the base rate or mark it up? I found 2 dealers in the PA area that are adding to the base - one was adding .0003 and the other .0004. They both tried to deny they were marking up the base and it wasn’t until I showed them on my lease calculator that their monthly numbers didn’t make sense. Once challenged, they then fessed up that they are giving a better discount on the sale so they need to make up for it on the rate. A 0.0004 increase equates to a 1% price increase. Is it tough to find an honest dealership or just the two I stumbled across? Oh, I did get one of them to discount by 7% but when you minus the increase in the MF, don’t think it’s the best deal. Still continuing to shop.

BMW Car Club of America. You'll need to pay for the 3 year to get the rebate.[/QUOTE] I always thought that you have to have been a member for at least 1 year to get the discount. Getting the CCA membership now won't help with the deal now.

They make money on volume and other incentives, so no need to feel obligated to give them back any price reduction you negotiated by agreeing to pay the MF mark-up. You should also consider doing multiple security deposits (up to 7) to reduce the MF rate if they are allowed in your state. They are offered by BMW and not the dealer and is a very good return on your money.
