As true as it may be, it does not give me any better feeling for someone who is in the market for a 23 40i!

I did go to Acura MDX...to Cadillac XT6...those are not as expensive but they do have high tech features. For example the 2023 Cadillac XT6 has a hands-free driving feature that could be used up to 82 MPH speed (Super Cruise package). It also has a self-parking feature. Yet I didn't come across all those complaints. In fact...the owners are overwhelmingly happy with their purchase. That's why I'm seriously considering it. It may not be as luxurious as the X7 but reliability is more important to me.
I was about to buy the X7...in fact, I joined the BMWCCA to get the $1000 rebate. But I'm now having second thoughts...

I suspect you will probably be happier with the XT6 based on your experience and what is important to you. If you ever went down the bmw route you would always have a suspicious view of the vehicle based on what you have read here.
the reports here will likely get worse before they get better.

I think you're right...to be honest...I'm very worried about getting the X7 as I don't think I can cope with the serious issues I have been reading about.

How do you like your new 2023 X7?

On my way home tonight experienced a similar issue. I received a drivetrain error a few weeks ago. The vehicle went in for the Headlight recall, and they found a bunch of codes that were cleared and software updated. Tonight, the vehicle started to idle rough. While driving, severe shoulder in the drivetrain and hard shifts. Difficult to make any real power. Limped it to the dealership and left the key in dropbox as the service department was closed. My wife had to come pick me up. Not what you want from a new car. 2023 M60I 3500 miles. Will update on the prognosis.

knock on wood, its been trouble free aside from a check engine light that went away after a restart. the code seems to indicate an software issue vs hardware- it was 1700 miles and 3 months ago and hasnt come back.
close to 2000 miles and 4 months of ownership now.

the last thing they want is for the car to be lemoned.
if it goes to the trade assist route, you can see if they will negotiate for things like ppf and such.
What is trade assot route? Is it different from lemon. Do they pay back the price you paid or trade in value?

trade assist- basically bmw trades you into a new car (usually at favorable terms, as in making you whole and a little more). if leased and i think also financed through bmw fs, they just swap the car.

if you want to stay with bmw this is the easiest route. no lawyer needed, and they keep the title from getting branded.

i'm still cautiously watching- my car was one of the first off the line for the 2023s (started production on 7/28 and exited QC on 7/29).

I think it's just the wrong time to buy a car. My 2020 X7 has been very reliable with 45K on the odometer. As a matter of fact, it's been more reliable in comparison to most of my previous vehicles which were all Toyota's and one Ford.

I got my car back. They updated the software to latest version and told me this should fix the issue. Fingers crossed. So far no error. I am going on a long trip to Florida this weekend. Hopefully there are no issues.

Wow that’s crazy. Would have thought it was more involved. Yes good luck. Safe trip.

Update:
I called the service advisor and expressed my utmost disappointment in how things have turned out for me with my new BMW X7. I have been paying X7 payments and driving an X3 (loaner) for almost a month out of three months I owned this vehicle. Thats 1/3 of the time!!

I basically asked for an update on the parts situation. Service advisor was very courteous and tried to get answers for me. She told me she will check and get back to me in few mins and she did. What she found was - The part is estimated to be dispatched from Germany around 12/25. We know no one is working in Germany during Christmas and New Year…. So her best guess is that the part won’t be shipped until after new years. There is a possibility that BMW could send the parts In express service, but she was not all that sure if BMW would go that route.

She said she would get me their biggest loaner vehicle (X5) and also willing to pay for a Full Size SUV rental if we have any travel plans for the holidays. Thats very generous of BMW, but due to our vehicle situation, we cancelled our travel plans and let family know already that we are not driving to visit them (in Texas). So, unless something changes between now and December 23rd, we are not going to be using the full rental offer they are offering.

I just want my X7 back!!

Question to the group: what are your thoughts on negotiating a full (Maximum term/ miles ) extended service warranty from BMW in leu of trade assist , or lemon etc

It would be less cumbersome that way. Even if I want to place a new order today, there is no DH option and god knows what other options will be removed by the time we are even ready to place the order. This forces us to spend more $$ towards M60i…… again, we really don’t know if that new vehicle is going to NOT have any issues or not. YKWIM!

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading my post.

Its for PPF and Ceramic Coating. TBH , hindsight - I should have not gone for PPF and Ceramic coating…. I am limited to taking the vehicle to hand washes or totally touchless car washes only. There are no touchless car washes in my city (can you even believe it) and each time I take my vehicle for hand wash, it is close to $100. My vehicle is Mineral white and quickly collects dust….so I head to hand wash place at least once every 15 days…It quickly adds up.

Oh well!!!

Agreed!!

With such tragedy with our X7, we are seriously contemplating whether we should take our Rivian R1S delivery or not. We don’t want two new “kinda” first generation vehicles in our house…..

It is unfortunate that even M60i is having similar issues. Looks like BMW did a premature releases on these new engines… with out proper testing.

Keep us posted on what they find out!!

The Rivian R1S is all electric? And it's a large SUV...

I left the vehicle at the dealership on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, they could not recreate the issue. With that, they said it needed another software update (the last one was 57.9 about 3 weeks ago). They updated, and the service rep took it home for the night to monitor. Waiting to hear back today (Thursday).

I am racking my brain trying to think about what was different when I had the problem vs. the dealership. The only difference was the way the vehicle was started. I used the Digital Key Plus (on iPhone) vs the dealership having to use the physical key. I can't see why this would make a difference but wanted to mention.
