We save the 30 bucks and use better quality oil and are sure it's been changed properly with the proper oil and filter.

it costs me just over $30 to do mine.

i drink beer while i do mine, no cake but free pie from the GF, and instead of thugs washing my car with a soapy broom and scratching it, i do it myself. SO WORTH IT.

I am about to embark on my first oil change. I picked up Castrol Edge full synthetic European formula 0W-40 for an average quart cost of $5.43 (at Walmart) and a Wix filter for $6.11 so the total cost of my DIY oil change is. . . $44.12. I work for O'Reilly Auto Parts and while the Wix filter was reasonable with my discount, sadly the motor oil is still less expensive at Walmart than it is at work with my discount. By the way, Wix is the only aftermarket oil filter I trust.

Wix filters are excellent and for $6 with your discount, it's a no-brainer. I use Mann who manufactures the OEM filters for BMW. $9.50 on Amazon w/ free Prime shipping.

It's fun, gives you some time to look under the car, and saves some bucks if you find the right deal. Stock up on 4 jugs of 0W40 from Wal-Mart when 5 gallons is on sale, and you can do 3 oil changes for about the price of 2 at the dealer.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-0W...5-qt./23636902: $114.72 with tax

http://www.amazon.com/Mann-Filter-HU...943753-5671050: $28.50, no tax

Total cost for 3 DIY oil changes:
$143.22

Savings:
$96.75 + tax

Every little bit counts.

You were the one asking the question. If you want to be the type of owner that waits for road side assistance to change a flat tire, be my guest. Just don't knock on other people's hives.
It's not about the savingS (not saving). If it's all about cash for you, keep taking it to somebody to pump gas or change the oil, I don't care. Nobody cares.

I'd do it myself even if it cost more to do it by myself. I don't trust dealers because they are used to dealing with people like you, who couldn't give two shits about what type of oil they put in there, as long as it runs for the time you need the car to run.

Funny, as I had you figured for an asshole long before you started showing the prejudice of stereotyping people based on which country they live. See above.

Is it because you don't know how to do it yourself?

It actually makes sense because you have someone pump your gas for you as well. Figures an oil change would be too much for you to do.

But I do my own oil changes because I don't trust other people with my car and I know its done right with higher quality oil.
