That’s how I roll.

I run both as the 21”ers are for mixed all weather driving and road trips.
22”er summers are only for summer and temps warmer than 40 degrees.
21”ers definitely ride smoother and quieter.

Makes sense but I am too lazy to change tires. Will probably put DSW06 A/S tires on the 22" and call it a day

This is wife’s car, and comfort is the main priority. DHP may compensate for the larger wheel size, but I’m still more comfortable with a bit more rubber in between the rim and the murderous potholes we have here. Aesthetically, neither of us are fans of big rims, and the otherwise black car called for a bit of contrast there.

What color or colors do you recommend which hides the dirt and is most maintenance free? I’m looking at 2019-22 m50

I’m coming from a black suv - I love it when it’s clean, but I don’t clean it as much as I should. Past silver and burnt orange vehicles were amazing at looking great even when I haven’t washed for months at a time.

I wash my truck by hand occasionally, but mostly rely on the car wash. I don’t want to spend another $5k on paint protection.

Most used options I’m seeing are Mineral White, carbon black, black sapphire, artic grey, photonic blue or tanzinite blue. I like the pop of the tanzanite in the sun, but that isn’t the norm in the northeast.

Skyscraper grey, or a similar one that was available pre-LCI like arctic grey would be the best for hiding dirt and scratches. From options you listed, from worst to best: carbon black, black sapphire metallic, tanzanite blue, pythonic blue, mineral white/arctic grey.

I like white for practical reasons:

1. I live in Florida and white reflects heat minimizing interior temperature

2. White is reported as the most visible potentially minimizing being hit by another vehicle. Gray is reported as the least visible since it blends in with the background.

AAA - Commentary:
A white car could keep you safer on the road. Studies suggest that white is one of the safest colors for cars because it tends to be the most visible at night and in most weather conditions—except snow.

I’m wondering if the popularity of colors in this survey is really reflective of what we choose - or of what dealers spec……
According to the survey, greys are most popular followed by blues, blacks and whites - but greys, blacks, and whites are what I see most in dealer inventory….

Originally I always wondered if sapphire black would have been a better choice until I started seeing X7s with it on the road and I realized for me it doesn’t pop as the tanzanite blue II does in the sun as they drove past me. In the shade/dark I still have basically a black car because of how the TBII color changes.

Don’t get me wrong I love black sapphire as I have other BMWs in my garage in the color but specifically on the X7 I think TBII just works. Clearly the voters do as well

Also weird side comment … sapphire black X7 owners have commented to me on how much they love the color when they see my X7 but no other X7 color owners have. I think maybe it has to do with fear of the color when purchasing as I was in the same boat when I was buying it. Like me they wanted a dark color. However, I couldn’t find an X7 at any dealership with TBII to see it in person but there were lots of black sapphire ones. I most likely would have picked that color but I decided to take a chance on TBII sight unseen. The first time I saw it at the dealer at pickup I instantly knew it was the right choice and was very relieved No regrets to this day

It’s two sides of the same coin: dealers pre-order colors that are most popular.

Speaking for my own household, we’ve bought (mostly through custom orders) exclusively black cars for the last 20+ years. Both of our current BMWs are in BSM.

It could also be that dealers stock colors that most buyers like

I like loud colors. I don’t think this is too big to go loud. I had an Avalanche in Burnt Orange. That color looks amazing on a vette and great on the big truck.

I want a blue that pops - like Dodge Viper Blue. Marina bay blue seems the closest, but I’m going pre-LCI. I haven’t seen Tanzanite Blue in person but some of the photos hear make it look like an amazing color. The photos from the dealership made it look like a boring dark blue.

I’m really amazed with frozen grey. It’s a $5000 add for that? Plus you need at add a clear vinyl wrap for another $5,000+ to keep it in good shape? Am I missing something? Why wouldn’t you get any color and go with a matte grey wrap?

I started with TBII but for a few reasons decided to not to go that route. One is IMHO it is not worth the $2k extra because it is not a unique color. Honda for example has a similar color. Also blue is not as easy to maintain as it shows dust so quickly. Carbon black (which is dark blue really) for example is much harder to keep clean than BSM.

Mmm,m ok, maybe. The last time I bought a ride because of color was in 2002, when I bought a black Tahoe, and had a color choice between that and the dirt brown color that was really popular on Tahoes and Suburbans. Every car since then has been bought for features or packages and they’ve been red, black, white, blue and white.

So - are dealers stocking popular colors, or are some of us buying colors we don’t love, because the ride is otherwise good?

I would say most people just buy what is available. Ride first then, color second. If given the option many would probably not choose ‘black’ or just ‘white’. Black gets a little bit of dirt and shows so easily. My M3 is black and have to wash it all the time.
