Very helpful, thanks! It has only happened twice for me (in about a month) so far so i'll see if it keeps popping up.

Same problem on 2023 3 series

I have a 2023 X7.

Connect phone to CarPlay and look at the map. Notice where you are as the incorrect location.

Now open the BMW app and look at where the BMW is SELF REPORTING it’s location to BMW. Notice they’re the same spot.

So, while the I drive gps is correct for navigation, there appears to be a secondary system generating an incorrect location which is passed on to BMW as well as CarPlay. This is something I’m going to have my dealer look at, i didnt spend all this money on a car that can’t figure out its correct location.
Hi, did you manage to solve this problem? If yes, can you please tell us how? I am having the exact same problem with my 2023 330i. Couldn't find better words to describe the problem.

Just a heads-up that 11/2022.31 software update is out there and perhaps the GPS drift is addressed. Anyone find the release notes for this update?

I can confirm that this software version does not fix the issue. I still have it and the dealer updated me to the 11/2022 version. It's maddening but tends to correct itself over time as you drive.

We are having the same GPS issues with a '23 X7 M60. Both of our phones (carplay) show us miles away. Separately, the car self reports a location miles away.

Interestingly, the incorrect location is always in roughly the same area, regardless of where we actually are.

I also have this issue in my 2023 M240i, also set up as a digital key. iPhone 14 Pro Max running 16.0.3

It was giving me fits for the first month, then was completely good for a month, and came back once last week

I have this same problem in my new 2023 m340i .. I also have my iPhone set as bmw key. I have an iPhone 13. I have installed all the updates for my phone. iOS 16.1.2 or whatever is newest. Have tried resetting idrive 8. Have tried resetting location services. Everything short of completely resetting my phone. It’s a huge pain and disappointment.

Having this issue on both the 2020 X6 m50 and 2023 X7 m60. The only way I have found to consistently rectify it is by resetting iDrive. Both vehicles and iPhones running the most recent SW.

Just updated my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 16.2 and so far I haven’t had the issue. It would happen almost all the time before. Will keep you posted.

Since we have had the car (October), I have found that any iOS update throws off the GPS location. So far, a hard reset of iDrive (hold down power button for 20-30 seconds) fixes it. We have 2 phones paired with the car (and connected via CarPlay) and had to perform the iDrive reset for each, depending on which was connected, right after the update. So it appears that the CarPlay version in the car and the version on the phone are not synced until both have been hard reset. This is a software issue for sure.

Appears to be happening more often for me now. It also happened mid-navigation. Had to reset iDrive and re-input address. Will probably bring it in to get looked at after the holidays.

Angry

Having this issue for more than 5 times now. Comes and goes, sent to the dealership twice, and they escalated to BMW but all they can do is reset it.
Still came back couple of days ago, I am going to notify dealership again, if they don't fix it in a month or so, I seriously want to lemon it.

I talked to my SA and was told that could happen when the car doesn't get a good satellite reception... sounds like BS to me...

Resetting iDrive does effectively resolve the issue each time.

I sent in my car to dealership today as they are close and the issue happened right in front of their face! Now they have no excuse. They also said someone bring in another X7 same issue. I am pretty sure they know this.
