I might try to mix and match the official BMW retrofit module 63115A64D38 with the Stealth Hitch beam/assembly and have it retrofitted officially in Ista by the dealer.
I would be a little skeptical about towing boats or things that are ultra heavy due to the possible damage it could do to your transmission..

Last time I looked into this when I had an iX M60, somewhere buried in the installation notes there was a warning about weight limits. This one may be different, but some of the other ones were really designed for lighter accessories like bicycle racks and things like that.

Yes for the iX, I agree with you; you’re on your own. But the XM is different, it’s already approved for towing elsewhere in the world with a factory hitch (3AC option). As for Canada, the specs are already in the owner’s manual (2700kg or close to 6000 lbs) and the kit already exists from BMW (https://parts.bmwnorthwest.com/a/BMW...n/71_1288.html)

All I needed from Stealth is the beam assembly so that I can remove the hitch when not needed and that visually everything looks good.

And if memory serves me right, the XM already has the trailer wiring already there - even on US vehicles.

Anyone had an issue with the car getting stuck in trailer mode after trailer and light plug are removed? I disconnected the trailer and light plug and pulled away to back into the garage. The programmed auto park option I use to back into the garage would not come up on the screen because the car thought I was still connected to the trailer. I could not get it to clear so I manually backed in. I'll go out later and see if this has cleared.

So does XM have an OEM hitch option in US?
Or only aftermarket? (I’m leasing and not sure the aftermarket is possible…)
